One Run, One Goal: Rabies-Free Future

On April 18, 2026, the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) community successfully organized an advocacy run to raise awareness about rabies and support the national goal of eliminating rabies by 2030.

Hundreds of participants gathered in a show of unity and purpose as hospital personnel and community runners came together for the event, which underscored the importance of rabies prevention, responsible pet ownership, and the timely vaccination of dogs and cats—key measures in protecting public health.

The activity was led by the BRHMC Animal Bite Treatment Center, with the support of the Outpatient Department, Public Health Unit, HEDMU, and the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Health workers, volunteers, pet owners, and families joined the run, transforming it into more than a sporting event but a platform for education, collective action, and community responsibility.

Adding support to the advocacy, Xavier Vallejo, MD, from the Department of Health Center for Health Development V (DOH CHD V), attended the event, reinforcing the shared commitment of health institutions and partners toward rabies elimination.

Organizers emphasized that every step taken during the run symbolized a pledge to save lives and prevent rabies-related deaths. Through strengthened awareness campaigns and sustained cooperation among stakeholders, the community moves closer to achieving zero rabies cases.

The fun run delivered a clear message: when the community runs together with one goal, a rabies-free future is within reach.
