“Hesitation increases in relation to risk in equal proportion to age.” - Toba Beta

If you admit that you haven’t yet understood everything, faith can fill the emptiness in heart to confront the hesitation. - Anonymous

In my very honest opinion, Telemedicine, most especially in pediatrics, can never replace the actual physical encounter between the doctor and the patient. Ever since the times of Hippocrates to Osler, the art and science of medicine has been rigorously taught and practiced on the established foundations of history taking and physical examination. Today, because of this COVID-19 pandemic, we will venture into this largely vast unknown so that we can continue to respond to my patient’s medical needs. Having known me quite well on my meticulous clinical approach, however because of the limitations of this medium or platform, we then have to mutually be fully aware of and accept all of these. Much really therefore will depend on you as parents, guardians and caregivers to be able to closely observe, feel, listen and then to report to me through your responses to my clinical questions, my being able to formulate an impression and develop a plan of management. Our guiding and working conditions will thus be anchored on collaboration, deep well of patience, mutual understanding and trust. Against this backdrop, I am strongly advising you and to never hesitate to immediately bring your babies and children to the DLSUMC- ER should signs of dehydration, 2-3 days of high grade fever, difficulty of breathing, convulsions, loss of consciousness, animal and insect bites, burns, chemical ingestions, foreign objects swallowed and even falls. Our Pedia Residents are on strict instructions to inform me, RIGHT AWAY, for my most immediate intervention. However, as a gentle reminder, I will not be entertaining questions on SMS on and for a diagnosis and management, but please go to my FB page instead. These are really very uncertain times but there are priorities that have to be addressed, I’m sure the health and wellness of your babies and children occupy you the most. Let us therefore squarely face these challenges and shift them to become God- given opportunities for all of us. Thank you very much and see you in my Telemedicine clinic. All for the Filipino Child.
