🦟 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞 & 𝐃𝐇𝐅: 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞-𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 🩺

Dengue and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) are deadly but preventable, especially in children. Kids are more vulnerable due to lower immunity and faster fluid loss.

✅ Early signs to watch for:
• High fever
• Severe headache
• Skin rash
• Bleeding gums or nose
• Sudden fatigue

🏥 According to the CDC, prompt hydration and medical care can save lives. Delayed treatment increases the risk of DHF, which can be fatal.

🦟 Dengue Myths Busted

1️⃣ Myth: Dengue spreads from person to person.
✔️ Fact: Only Aedes mosquitoes can transmit it.

2️⃣ Myth: Mosquitoes bite only at night.
✔️ Fact: Dengue mosquitoes bite mostly in the daytime.

3️⃣ Myth: Papaya leaf juice or tawa-tawa can cure dengue.
✔️ Fact: Walang sapat na ebidensya. These may help hydration, but they are not a cure. Best way is early check-up, fluids, and doctor’s care.

4️⃣ Myth: Once you get dengue, you’re immune forever.
✔️ Fact: There are 4 strains—you can still get it again.

5️⃣ Myth: Dengue is always deadly.
✔️ Fact: Most cases are treatable if detected early.

👉 Reminder: Linisin ang paligid, alisin ang stagnant water, at mag-ingat palagi. Prevention starts at home.

🩸 DHF (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) – Quick Facts

✅ What is DHF?
A severe, life-threatening form of dengue, common in children and repeat infections.

🚨 Symptoms:
• High fever
• Abdominal pain
• Bleeding (nose/gums/skin)
• Vomiting blood or black stools
• Weakness or drowsiness

🧠 Why It’s Dangerous:
Causes plasma leakage, low platelets, and possible organ failure.

🏥 Act Fast:
Seek immediate medical care. Early hydration saves lives.

📌 WHO & CDC warn: Children under 15 are at higher risk during outbreaks.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire (DOH) reminds us: “Prevention starts at home—eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and protect children with proper clothing and repellents.”

🫀 Salt Intake and Heart Health

Did you know? Consuming too much salt can raise blood pressure — a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting salt intake to less than 1 teaspoon (5 grams) per day to help protect your heart.

Even small changes — such as reducing salty snacks, processed foods, and adding less salt in cooking — can make a big difference for your health. 💙

Taking care of your heart starts with the choices you make every day.

👨‍👩‍👧 Setting Priorities: Time for Our Children

In today’s busy world, it’s easy to get caught up with work and responsibilities. But children need more than food, shelter, and education — they also need our time, attention, and presence.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), strong parent–child relationships are linked to better emotional health, school performance, and resilience in later life. Even small moments — listening, playing, or simply being there — create lasting impact.

Let’s remember: providing for our children is important, but being with them is priceless. 💙

🧠 Sugar Intake and ADHD: What Studies Say

Many parents wonder if sugar directly causes ADHD. Current research shows no strong evidence that sugar alone causes the disorder. However, some studies suggest that high consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks may be linked to more frequent ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents (Siritientong et al., 2023; Han et al., 2016).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), ADHD is influenced by a mix of genetic, neurological, and environmental factors, not just diet. Still, experts recommend limiting added sugars for overall health, as excessive intake is linked to obesity, diabetes, and poor attention regulation.

Balanced nutrition, good sleep, and regular physical activity remain key in supporting both brain health and behavior.

👩‍👦 Acanthosis Nigricans in Children

If you notice dark, velvety skin patches on your child’s neck, armpits, or elbows that don’t wash off, this could be Acanthosis Nigricans (AN).

🔎 According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), AN is often linked to insulin resistance, a warning sign for prediabetes or type 2 diabetes in children.

👉 Key reminders for parents:

AN is not contagious and not dirt.

It’s a signal to have your child checked by a doctor.

Early lifestyle changes—healthy diet, active play, regular check-ups—can prevent complications.

✨ AN is your child’s skin telling you to pay attention to their health.
