De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) and De La Salle University Medical Center (DLSUMC) proudly mark the successful 100th Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) performed on April 21, 2026, a milestone that reflects not only innovation but a growing legacy of healing.

The journey began on January 24, 2014, when Dr. Esperanza Santi and her team introduced this advanced, minimally invasive procedure at DLSUMC, in collaboration with esteemed experts from Japan, Dr. Haruhiro Inoue and Dr. Hitomi Minami. What started as a bold step forward has become a sustained mission to restore comfort and dignity to patients.

Achalasia, a rare disorder that impairs the esophagus’ ability to move food toward the stomach, can significantly affect a person’s ability to eat and quality of life. Through POEM, patients are given renewed hope with relief from symptoms and a chance to live more fully.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Esperanza Santi and her team for leading this milestone case and for their unwavering commitment to excellence, compassion, and patient-centered care.

As we celebrate this achievement, we reaffirm our dedication to Nurturing Life, one patient, one story, one breakthrough at a time.

Pagdating sa kalusugan ng ating mga mahal sa buhay, normal lang ang magkaroon ng mga tanong. Madalas nating naririnig ang palliative care at hospice care, pero alam mo ba ang pagkakaiba ng dalawa?

Kasama si Dr. Jhoanna Aguirre-Pedro, isang Palliative Medicine Specialist ng DLSUMC, ipapaliwanag niya sa atin ang layunin ng Palliative Care at kung paano ito makakatulong sa pagpapabuti ng kalidad ng buhay ng pasyente at ng kanilang pamilya.

Hindi lang ito tungkol sa sakit; ito ay tungkol sa pag-aalaga, pag-unawa, at dignidad.

Ang Heat Stroke ay isang medical emergency na hindi dapat balewalain. Kung nakakaramdam ng mga sintomas, wag idaan sa "pahinga”. Pumunta na sa Emergency Care Center para sa agaran at tamang gamutan.

The De La Salle University Medical Center's (DLSUMC) Infection Prevention and Control Unit (IPCU) organized a small group session with guest speakers Richard Debenham and Christian Eckardt, bringing together doctors, residents, nurses, allied health professionals, hospital administrators, and healthcare leaders.

Opening remarks were given by the DLSUMC Medical Professional Services Director Dr. Ardith Dominguez-Tan, followed by a special message from DLSMHSI President Dr. Antonio B. Ramos. The guest speakers discussed best practices in hand hygiene and surface hygiene, and their effectiveness against bacteria and viruses in the healthcare setting.

The session concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Ma. Concepcion Ortillo-General, Chief of Clinics.
