Wisdom teeth do not always grow properly. In some cases, they become impacted, meaning they are trapped under the gums or growing at an angle against the neighboring tooth. This can cause pain, swelling, infection, and even damage to the adjacent teeth if left untreated.
In this case, the X-ray clearly shows a horizontally impacted lower wisdom tooth (circled in red). Because of its position, it cannot erupt normally and may lead to complications such as tooth decay, gum infection, or pressure on the surrounding teeth.
If you are experiencing pain at the back of your jaw, swelling, or difficulty opening your mouth, it may be a sign of an impacted wisdom tooth. A dental X-ray is the best way to properly diagnose the condition.
Regular dental check-ups help detect these problems early and prevent more serious complications.
