Giandam na sa Davao City Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) ang mga nagkadaiyang aktibidad alang sa 47th National Disability Rights Week nga ipahigayon karong Hulyo 14–23, 2025.

Kini na mga aktibidad isip pagpakitag pag-ila sa katungod sa mga persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Sumala kang Atty. Redendo Martinez, ang head sa PDAO, ang kalihokan magsugod sa Hulyo 14 pinaagi sa flag raising ceremony sa City Hall ug Santos nga Misa sa San Pedro Cathedral.

Lakip sa mga kalihukan ang seminars alang sa epektibong stratehiya sa pagtabang sa mga PWDs, livelihood program seminar, motorcade, opening event, Paragames, PWD products display, disability consultation, ug uban pa.

Samtang gihangyo sa City Government ang publiko ug mga establisyemento sa pagrespeto ug pagpanalipod sa katungod sa mga PWD.

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐖𝐃𝐬

The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed the "Comprehensive Persons with the Disability Rights, Privileges, and Protection Ordinance of Davao City," which sets penalties for those who discriminate against, denigrate, vilify or ridicule PWDs.

The ordinance said any person who commits acts of denigration, vilification, or public ridicule against Persons with Disability shall suffer be fined Php 1,000 for the first offense, Php 3,000 for the second offense, and Php 5,000 or 1 month imprisonment or both at the discretion of the court for the third and succeeding offenses.

For violations committed by establishments, they shall be charged separately for offense made under RA 7477, otherwise known as "The Magna Carta for Disabled Persons", RA 9442 otherwise known as "An Act Expanding the Benefits and Privileges of Persons with Disability (PWD)," RA 11215, otherwise known as the "The National Integrated Cancer Control Act," RA 10747, otherwise known as the "The Rate Diseases Act of the Philippines" and BP 444, otherwise known as the "Accessibility Law" and other related laws.

A person found in possession of any falsified PWD ID shall also be penalized.

Atty. Redendo Martinez, PDAO head, told Madayaw that they will convene a technical working group composed of representatives of various types of disability for the formulation of the PWD Rights ordinance's IRR.

"We are very happy na napasa na sa wakas, ang ato nalang ang pag draft sa Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) (We are very happy that it has finally been passed.),” he said.

Martinez said that July is being observed as the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Month and they were hopeful that by then, the ordinance would already be signed by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Baste Duterte. CIO

June 3rd of every year, the world celebrates World Clubfoot Day. Catering to over 350 clubfoot patients over the last two years, we at Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital celebrate our clubfoot patients daily! And, we want you to meet one of our patients in line with this year's celebration.

"The elders in our town say that Jahna's feet are like that because when I was pregnant, my husband craved crabs. He enjoys catching small crabs from the sea and cooking them. They say that our child became clubfooted because my husband was supposedly cursed, as he didn't even let the crabs he caught grow before eating them," Jona, Jahna's mother, shared.

Jahna, Jona's second-born and youngest child, was born with clubfoot, which caused her foot to twist inward and upward. Her grandfather and father share the same condition. Like her grandparents did to her father when he was a baby, her parents massaged her foot and made a makeshift brace out of bamboo sticks, hoping to straighten Jahna's foot. But Jahna would cry because of the pain, so they stopped wearing the makeshift brace. Sadly, Jahna grew up with an untreated clubfoot.

In 2019, Jona was told about a mobile clinic in the city near their town that was to be conducted by Tebow CURE Children's Hospital of the Philippines. Jona learned that Jahna's clubfoot was inherited from her father's family. Jona was relieved that, finally, her daughter would get the proper treatment she needed. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic happened, and Jahna's healing journey became lost in the chaos.

Jahna found her way back four years later to start her healing and transformation journey. As part of the hospital's comprehensive care procedures, which took months, she underwent serial casting appointments, corrective surgery, and corrective shoes, all without charge. Jahna now starts attending class and is free of the restrictions she had before due to her condition.
