Every step forward in learning is a step toward better care ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

Our OTs recently attended a seminar on Feeding and Eating in Children with Swallowing Disorders, gaining valuable insights on how to safely and effectively support children with feeding difficulties.

From understanding swallowing mechanics to applying practical intervention strategies, this experience strengthens our ability to create meaningful and individualized therapy sessions.

We remain committed to growing as professionals so we can continue making a positive difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.

Here's another great tool for fine motor skills and handwriting! As an occupational therapist, we LOVE to use heavy work in the hands as a warm-up to handwriting tasks. Proprioceptive input "wakes up" the hands so the intrinsics are ready for writing tasks. It is also a great strengthening and resistive coordination tool. As a speech and language pathologist, I often meet persistent and loving parents who are eager to put their child in speech/language therapy, but are subtly hesitant when I recommend occupational therapy (OT) simultaneously. Their usual response? โ€œSpeech lang naman ang concern, bakit kailangan pa ng OT?โ€ ๐Ÿ’ญ

โ€ผ๏ธ Hereโ€™s what I try to explain:
A child has to be (1) regulated, (2) engaged, and (3) able to attend before meaningful communication can develop. Thatโ€™s where occupational therapy comes in. It helps build foundations for communication through movement, play, and sensory work that support the brain, which directly support speech and language progress

Think of OT as the โ€œsoilโ€ that speech grows from ๐ŸŒฑ Without it, overall therapy progress may be slow or stalled

Letโ€™s give children what they truly need; not just speech, but the support that helps speech come alive ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ I know it can feel like โ€œextraโ€ work or expense, but when we give them what they truly need, thatโ€™s when the real breakthroughs begin ๐Ÿ’š

When children consume too much sugar, their brain becomes overloaded and struggles to function at its best. Learning new skills, focusing on tasks, and processing information can become harder and more frustrating than usual.

Research shows high sugar intake affects memory, attention, and emotional regulation. It can also spike energy briefly but crash focus, making tasks feel overwhelming. Early nutrition plays a key role in brain development and lifelong learning habits.

Parents can help by offering balanced meals, limiting sugary snacks, and encouraging whole foods that support steady energy and healthy brain function. Small dietary changes now can improve learning and focus for years to come.
