On the Dangers of Public Shaming and the Urgency of Kindness
The heartbreaking news of Eman Atienzaโs passing is a painful reminder that behind every trending topic or viral post is a real human being, someoneโs child, friend, or parent, who is quietly carrying wounds that words can deepen beyond repair.
Social media can be a beautiful space for connection and awareness.
But it can also become a merciless amplifier of hate and humiliation.
When a post goes viral, it can destroy reputations, careers, and lives, often before the truth even has a chance to speak.
Thatโs why shaming, whether offline or online, must never be normalized.
Itโs not entertainment. Itโs not โjust a post.โ
Itโs an act that can leave irreversible scars on someoneโs mental health and dignity.
You donโt need weapons to hurt, destroy, or kill. Your words are enough.
Unless and until our society recognizes cyberbullying for what it truly is, the suffering of countless silent victims will continue.
With just one careless tap on a screen, a personโs reputation, and sometimes even their will to live, can be shattered.
If youโve ever been on the receiving end of lies, gossip, or online ridicule, please remember:
You are not alone.
You are not defined by what others say about you.
And no matter how dark it feels, there is life beyond the pain.
If you ever need someone who understands, someone whoโs been through it and made it out stronger, my inbox is open.
Please reach out.
You are worth saving. You are worth fighting for.
Never be bullied into silence. Never allow anyone to make you feel small.
And to those who make social media a toxic place,
who take joy and pride in hurting others with their words, knowing it might ruin their lives,
when your day of reckoning comes, thatโs not bullying. Thatโs accountability.
Because truth and justice may take time, but they always arrive.
Letโs use our platforms not to destroy, but to defend truth, kindness, and accountability.
Because every word we post can either heal or harm,
and each of us gets to choose which one it will be.
