Hijama, or wet cupping, is a traditional healing practice where cups are used to create a vacuum on the skin, drawing out blood and other fluids through small incisions to promote healing. Also known as medicinal bleeding, it is a practice with deep roots in Islamic and traditional Chinese medicine, recommended in Islamic hadith, and is said to improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, and relieve conditions like migraines and joint pain. While studies suggest benefits for pain and autoimmune conditions, high-quality evidence supporting its broad efficacy is limited, and dry cupping (without incisions) is a less invasive alternative.
