Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) National Mayor's Forum | SMX Convention Center Aura, Manila | July 15–18, 2025

The Municipality of Dumanjug, spearheaded by our Local Chief Executive, Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica, continues to stand firm in its commitment to fight malnutrition and build a healthier future for every Dumanjuganon.

During the National Mayor’s Forum held at SMX Aura, Manila, the LGU was proudly represented by Municipal Administrator, Atty. Loura Mae Saromines-Alviola and Municipal Health Officer, Dr. April Cortes. In the course of the workshop, they acknowledged both the municipality’s vulnerabilities and its strengths, recognizing that identifying gaps is the first step toward meaningful progress.

In 2024, Dumanjug received PBG Tranche 1 funding amounting to ₱2,564,589.71 through the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP). Building on this momentum, the LGU further committed ₱4.5 million to expand and scale up its local nutrition initiatives. Daghang salamat, PMNP! Your support has empowered us to turn our kahuyang into collective action and renewed hope for a truly convergent, household-centered approach.

To transition fully into intermediate-level competency, stronger multi-sectoral coordination is essential. While participation from key sectors such as Agriculture (DA), Education (DepEd), and Social Welfare (MSWDO) exists, it still largely depends on individual leadership rather than institutionalized, system-driven collaboration.

The LGU has made commendable strides in budgeting and resource allocation, yet greater efforts are needed in advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and building a culture of co-ownership and co-creation to ensure long-term sustainability.

Despite ongoing challenges, Dumanjug continues to make steady progress in its nutrition leadership and governance journey, driven by clear goals, a commitment to inclusive learning, and a shared vision of a nourished, empowered, and resilient community.

13/07/2025

Here are some common misconceptions about IV administration "DEXTROSE" at the community level and the truth behind each:

❌ COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS vs ✅ FACTS

1. “Mas paspas ang IV kaysa oral meds.”

❌Misconception: IV is always more effective or faster.
✅ Fact: Not all illnesses require IV. Oral medications are often just as effective, safer, and easier to administer, especially for mild to moderate cases.

2. “Mas maayo ang IV para kusog mubaskog ang lawas.”

❌Misconception: IV fluids can instantly energize or "strengthen" the body.
✅ Fact: IV fluids are not vitamins or energy boosters. They are used for dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, or serious conditions, not for general fatigue.

3. “Pwede ra ang BHW o anyone nga kamao mu-IV.”

❌Misconception: Anyone who knows how to insert an IV can do it.
✅ Fact: Only licensed and trained professionals (e.g., IV-certified RNs or doctors) are legally and medically allowed to administer IV therapy. BHWs are not authorized.

4. “Wala may dautan basta limpyo lang ang pag-administer.”

❌Misconception: As long as the IV is done cleanly, it's safe.
✅ Fact: IV therapy requires sterile technique, medical assessment, and the ability to respond to complications like allergic reactions, air embolism, or fluid overload.

5. “Pang-adlaw adlaw ra nga tambal, IV lang pud gamiton.”

❌Misconception: Regular medications (e.g., paracetamol, antibiotics) should be given via IV for faster effect.
✅ Fact: These medications are formulated for oral use unless specifically prescribed for IV. Giving them IV without proper indication is unnecessary and risky.

6. “Mas mahal, mas epektibo.”

❌Misconception: IV therapy is more expensive, so it must be more effective.
✅ Fact: Cost does not equal effectiveness. Appropriateness of treatment matters more than the method of administration.

7. “Dili na kinahanglan ug assessment basta familiar na ang pasyente.”

❌Misconception: If the patient has received IV before, they don’t need reassessment.
✅ Fact: Every case is different. Vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms must always be checked before administering any IV Fluid.
