The halls of Flora District Hospital were filled with joy and gratitude on July 30, 2025, as the entire staff came together to celebrate the 50th birthday of our esteemed Administrative Officer IV, Vilma V. Castillo. This milestone event was not just a birthday celebrationโ€”it was a heartfelt tribute to a leader whose dedication, wisdom, and unwavering service have shaped the very foundation of our institution.

The program continued with a short tribute video, showcasing memories, and messages of appreciation. Fellow employees, hospital staff, and special guests shared personal anecdotes and testimonials that reflected Vilmaโ€™s integrity, professionalism, and compassion. Laughter and a few happy tears were shared as we looked back on decades of service, mentorship, and excellence in administration.

The entire Flora District Hospital family celebrated not only a birthday, but the life of a person who has become more than just a colleagueโ€”truly a mentor and friend to many.

The Center for Health Development Department of Health - Cordillera Administrative Region (CHD DOH-CAR), through its Regulation, Licensing, and Enforcement Division (RLED), conducted its annual monitoring and inspection of health facilities in Apayao province, including Flora District Hospital (FDH). These visits are integral to ensuring that healthcare institutions comply with national standards and are prepared for service expansions.

The RLED's annual visit plays a crucial role in FDH's continuous development. Last February 2025, FDH opened its Hemodialysis Center, the first of its kind run by a provincial hospital in Apayao. This development was part of the hospital's efforts to expand its services and ensure readiness for specialized care.

The project, which stands for "Bringing Universal healthcare services Towards a Sustainable program implementation Yielding to a resilient yApayao.โ€initiated by Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr., is a health and wellness program designed to address public health concerns and enhance productivity through better health in Apayao province.

In a recent initiative, Flora District Hospital collaborated with the Rural Health Unit of Flora, PhilHealth and Barangay Health Workers, which has been instrumental in implementing Project BUTSY's objectives offering free medical services such as dental care, medical consultation, and free circumcision for eligible boys.

Project BUTSY continues to make significant strides in improving the health and well-being of Apayao's residents.

As of February 11, 2025, Flora District Hospital has inaugurated its Hemodialysis Center, equipped with nine dialysis machines.

Today, April 3, 2025 a team from the Regulation, Licensing, and Enforcement Division (RLED) visited Flora District Hospital to conduct an initial assessment for the opening of its Hemodialysis (HD) Center.

This visit marks a crucial step in the hospitalโ€™s preparations to provide life-saving dialysis services to patients with kidney-related illnesses within the province. The RLED team inspected the facilityโ€™s infrastructure, equipment, and compliance with Department of Health (DOH) standards. Key areas of evaluation included water treatment systems, dialysis machines, infection control protocols, and staffing requirements.

The establishment of the Hemodialysis Center at Flora District Hospital is a significant milestone for Apayao, as it aims to reduce the burden on patients who currently have to travel long distances to access dialysis services. Once fully operational, the center will provide much-needed treatment closer to home, improving the quality of life for individuals suffering from chronic kidney disease.

Flora District Hospital (FDH) Hemodialysis Team expressed their gratitude to the RLED team for their support and guidance in ensuring that the facility meets the necessary standards.
