Veterinary medicine is a regulated profession. Only licensed veterinarians are legally allowed to diagnose, prescribe, treat, or perform procedures. Allowing unlicensed individuals to do so puts your pet at risk.

Being cautious isnโ€™t intrusive โ€” itโ€™s responsible pet ownership.
Your pet cannot speak, but you can advocate for them. ๐Ÿ’š

Why Your Pet Should Only Be Handled by a Licensed Veterinarian

By Dr. Geoff Carullo, DVM, FPCCP, DPCVSCA

Every pet owner deserves clarity and confidence when they walk into a veterinary clinic. And the first step to ensuring your petโ€™s safety is simple: make sure the person handling your pet is a licensed veterinarian.

Always Check the License

Before any consultation, examination, or treatment, take a moment to look for the posted PRC license or the name plate of the attending veterinarian.
A licensed veterinarian will always have:

A valid PRC ID

A posted PRC certificate

A clear name plate indicating their professional role

You are fully entitled to verify this.

Match the Name With the Person Handling Your Pet

Many clinics have multiple vets, interns, and assistants. Thatโ€™s normal.
But what matters is this:

The person who examines, injects, prescribes, or gives medical advice must be the same person whose name is shown on the license.

If you notice a mismatch, ask.
If the clinic cannot explain who is truly handling your pet, thatโ€™s a concern.

Why This Matters

Veterinary medicine is a regulated profession. Only licensed veterinarians can legally diagnose, treat, prescribe, or perform procedures. Allowing unlicensed individuals to do these tasks puts your pet at risk โ€” and puts clients in an unsafe, uninformed position.

You are your petโ€™s advocate.
Your questions protect them.

How to Verify a Licensed Veterinarian

Here are simple steps every pet owner can follow:

Look for the PRC license posted in the clinic.

Ask for the PRC ID if needed.

Confirm the name plate of the vet who will handle your pet.

Clarify who the licensed veterinarian on duty is before the consultation starts.

Make sure the vetโ€™s name matches the records and documents you receive.

Doing this is not being intrusive.
It is being responsible.

Your Pet Deserves Proper, Licensed Care

Your pet cannot speak โ€” but you can.
And ensuring that a licensed veterinarian is the one examining and treating them is one of the most important protections you can give.

Good veterinary care starts with transparency, honesty, and proper credentials.

Sharing this helps others understand what it really means to be a vet. Like and follow if you're with us.

Surgery Update from COS Veterinary Clinic!

Meet Bloo, our brave 6-year-old male Shih Tzu, who visited us for castration and dental prophylaxis.

During his dental cleaning, our team observed a malocclusion (misaligned bite) and a moving premolar tooth, which could cause discomfort, difficulty chewing, and potential infection if not addressed.

Our veterinary team provided the necessary treatments to support Blooโ€™s oral health, manage his jaw issue, and ensure a more comfortable, healthier bite moving forward. Bloo was incredibly brave throughout the procedure and is now resting and recovering well.

With proper home care, soft food, and monitoring, Bloo is expected to heal smoothly and get back to his cheerful self.

๐Ÿ™ Special thanks to Blooโ€™s furparents for trusting COS Veterinary Clinic. Your care and support play a big role in his recovery journey.

Cats Sleep for About 70% of Their Lives!

Itโ€™s true โ€” our feline friends are professional nappers! On average, cats sleep between 12โ€“16 hours a day, conserving energy for their next burst of zoomies or playtime.

This habit comes from their wild ancestors, who needed rest to stay alert while hunting. Even though your house cat hunts toys instead of prey, those instincts (and nap times!) remain.

So next time you find your cat snoozing in a weird spot โ€” remember, theyโ€™re just doing what they do best!
