RHU Baluan Commended for Excellence in PIMAM Implementation
The Department of Health โ Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN conducted a monitoring visit for the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) program at the Rural Health Unit of Baluan, General Santos City, on November 5, 2025.
The visit aimed to assess the functionality of the facility as an Outpatient Therapeutic Center (OTC) for the management of moderate and severe acute malnutrition among children.
During the activity, the RHU Baluan team presented their reports, monitoring tools, and documentation of program activities. The evaluators noted the active implementation of PIMAM services, with well-coordinated data gathering, training of health workers, and strong linkages with both government and private partners such as the City Agriculture Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and the Kiwanis Club of General Santos City.
RHU Baluan was commended for its comprehensive reports, inter-agency collaboration, and community participation. The establishment of a community garden and other eco-friendly initiatives also reflected the facilityโs commitment to promoting nutrition, food security, and environmental sustainability.
As a result of the evaluation, the facility earned an impressive score of 9 out of 10, recognizing the dedication and effectiveness of its staff in providing quality nutrition and health services to the people of Barangay Baluan.
Minor recommendations were given, including the completion of additional PIMAM admission details and maintaining updated inventories of nutrition commodities and logistics.
Dr. Roland Jay F. Basmillo, Medical Officer IV of RHU Baluan, expressed his gratitude to the Department of Health โ SOCCSKSARGEN Region for acknowledging their efforts to combat malnutrition and improve the health outcomes of children and families in the community. He also extended appreciation to Hon. Dennis Besa, Punong Barangay of Baluan, and the entire barangay council for their unwavering support to the health programs of RHU Baluan.
Dr. Basmillo emphasized that the success of the PIMAM program is a collective effort made possible through the commitment of health workers, the support of the local government, and the cooperation of the community. Together, they continue to work toward a malnutrition-free Barangay Baluan and a healthier future for all children.
