Highlighting today's event where all campus medics are gathered in a short demonstration and seminar about the basics in healthcare which took place in the old court at Stratford International School. Enlightening the minds of both junior and senior medics, and by navigating their skills in the medical field. Along with the guidance of Teacher Cherry Rosa, campus medic's coordinator, to the speaker of today's seminar, Ma Mitz Sanz our school nurse, and campus medic's cooperation had successfully conducted the said event.

Empowering medics through practicum and demonstration for the upcoming big event (intramurals), daily responsibilities and knowledge about healthcare. Preparing them to be vigilant, proactive in helping those injured, and what to do as well as not to do in an emergency situation.

As campus medics, many certain events might come ahead of us and we may encounter much more in the future. Therefore, carving an important thing in our minds that as part of the community, entering medics club is not just about wearing shirt where you labelled yourself as campus medic. Rather, it's how we serve our fellowmen through helping them with our might with genuine and compassionate aid and support.

"The human body experiences a powerful gravitational pull in the direction of hope. That is why the patient's hope is the physician's greatest weapon. They are the hidden ingredients in any prescription."
-Norman Cousins

We serve you, and your health is our priority!

"Dysmenorrhea, tuwing buwan ng dalaw."

Period pain? Menstrual cramps?
A throbbing or cramping pain in the lower abdomen where women experience during their menstrual period is what we called dysmenorrhea.

Do we have a brief knowledge about dysmenorrhea?

Dysmenorrhea is a medical term of painful menstrual periods that occurs when the contraction of the uterus sheds it's linings.
Other symptoms of dysmenorrhea which includes; nausea, fatigue and diarrhea. Typically, the pain begins before your menstrual period and subsides after few days.

Primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea are the two types of dysmenorrhea.

Primary dysmenorrhea is the term for menstrual cramps that come back every time you have period, but aren’t cause of other medical condition. On the other hand, secondary dysmenorrhea is a painful periods due to a certain condition or infection in your reproductive organs.

Is it normal to have dysmenorrhea?

A pain during menstruation is normal. About 60% of people with uterus having a mild cramps during their period, and 5% to 15% of people report period pain that's so severe that it affects their daily activities.

Can we relieve period cramps?

We can relieve period cramps through pain relievers called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which are often used as a first treatment for dysmenorrhea like ibuprofen or naproxen which can be bought in a local drug store. In addition, those who takes hormonal medications can experience less menstrual pain.

There are also other ways to reduce the pain that doesn't involve in medication.
Some of these are the following:

•Using a heating pad or hot water bottle on your lower back or abdomen when you have cramps.
•Getting extra rest.
•Avoiding foods that contain caffeine.
•Avoiding smoking ci******es and drinking alcohol.
•Massaging your lower back and abdomen.
•Exercising regularly. People who exercise tend to have less menstrual pain.

Is it important to know about dysmenorrhea or painful cramps?

Significantly, people who experience painful cramps should be able to have at least light knowledge about dysmenorrhea so as to be aware and to know how to prevent things that might trigger or worsen the pain. Things to avoid, to do, and prior to when menstruation comes where women will be prepared and ables them to reduce the pain.

Do you know? That heat stroke is the most serious heat-related illness? If not, at least you knew now!

What does heat stroke mean?
• It occurs when the body can no longer control it's temperature: the body's temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails, and the body is unable to cool down. When heat stroke occurs, the body temperature can rise to 106°F or higher with 10 to 15 minutes.
What is the awareness of heat stroke?
• Heat stroke is a condition caused due to over heating of the body, usually as a result of prolonged exposure to high temperatures or excessive physical exertion in hot sun.

Hmmm, now that we know what is heat stroke. Let's skip to the action that teaches us how to prevent such:
✓Wear appropriate clothing: choose lightweight, loose fitting clothing.
✓Stay cool indoors. Stay in an air conditioned place as much as possible.
✓Schedule outdoor activities carefully.
✓Stay hydrated.

Now that we have already an idea about how to prevent such cases, let's move on with the things or materials that we can use in relation to this case and the actions that we can apply in case of an emergency connected with this case.
• Sponge the person with cool water.
• Fan the person while misting the cool water.
• Place ice packs or cool, wet towels on the neck, armpits, and groin.
• Cover the person with cool, damp, and sheets.
