The Department of Health acknowledges that in many cultures, the first day of April is often called April Fool's Day - a day when there is an outbreak of pranks or jokes.

First, do no harm. The DOH urges all would-be pranksters to please avoid jokes related to illness, disease, and other physical or mental conditions; most especially about the loss of life. Doing so adds to stigma we want less of.

There can be considerate and wholesome fun. Always be kind to each other, and please have a Happy April Fool's Day!

Walang pinipili ang pinsala ng paputok: bata o matanda, lalaki o babae, aktibo o pasibo sa pakikilahok. Iniuulat namin ngayon ang bagong kaso ng isang 72/M mula sa NCR na nagtamo ng mga paso at gasgas dahil sa Kwitis (skyrocket) na sinindihan ng ibang tao sa kalye.

Ang FWRI Report #9 (6:00 AM ng Dis 29 hanggang 5:59 AM ng Dis 30) ay nagsiwalat ng labing-isang (11) bagong kaso, mula 6 hanggang 72 taong gulang (median age: 18), karamihan ay mga lalaki (9, 82%). Ang lahat ng mga bagong kaso na ito ay nangyari sa bahay at sa mga lansangan.

Anim (6, 55%) ang dahil sa ilegal na paputok. Ngayon, mas marami ang nagkaroon ng PASSIVE na paglahok (6, 55%). Kasama sa mga bagong kaso ang nabanggit na pinakamatandang kaso ngayong taon. Kasama rin ang isang bagong kaso ng amputation: isang 19/M mula sa Cagayan Valley na aktibong gumamit ng ilegal na Pla-pla, na nagresulta sa warak na kaliwang kamay. Walang karagdagang ulat ng paglunok hanggang ngayon.

Ang takbo ng datos ay malinaw: ang mga pinsalang nauugnay sa paputok ay nangyayari sa bahay o kalapit nito, kadalasang kinasasangkutan ng mga batang lalaki, ngunit nakakaapekto rin sa mga passive na nanonood lamang sa anumang edad o kasarian. Pinakamahusay pa rin ang manood ng mga community fireworks display mula sa isang ligtas na distansya. Mahalaga ang tungkulin ng mga magulang at pinuno ng komunidad.

Mayroon na ngayong isang daan at pitong (107) fireworks-related injuries (FWRI) sa kabuuan, na halos apat sa bawat sampung kaso ay nagmumula sa NCR (41, 38%). Kasunod ng NCR sa bilang ng mga kaso ay Central Luzon (12, 11%), Ilocos Region (12, 11%), Soccsksargen (7, 7%), Cagayan Valley (5, 5%), Bicol Region (5, 5%), Calabarzon (5, 5%), at Kanlurang Visayas (5, 5%). Siyamnapu't pitong porsyento (97%) ang nangyari sa bahay at sa mga lansangan, karamihan ay mga lalaking may aktibong pakikilahok. Ang mga tukoy na paputok na nagdudulot ng hindi bababa sa pito sa bawat sampung (72%) FWRI ay Boga*, 5-Star*, Kwitis, Piccolo*, Pla-Pla*, Luces, at Whistle Bomb. Ang mga ilegal na paputok (minarkahan ng asterisk) ang dapat sisihin sa humigit-kumulang anim sa bawat sampung kaso (63, 59%).

The Department of Health (DOH) today strongly advised the public to refrain from bringing small children to cemeteries to prevent injuries and diseases caused by overcrowding.

"I am advising parents and caregivers not to bring small children to cemeteries as overcrowding and intense heat and sudden unexpected downpour may cause diseases to small children", Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa warned.

He added that although COVID-19 is plateuing, the threat of the disease is still present. There are still sporadic cases and increasing cases in some regions. Also, small children has low resistance against infections.

The health chief also cautioned against patronizing ambulant vendors inside and outside of the cemeteries selling green mangoes, sandwiches, fruit juices, and other similar food stuff. He explained that these food may be contaminated by unsafe water & other elements of the environment which may compromise the health and safety of consumers.

The DOH advises people going to cemeteries to plan their visit, bring their own water and food to ensure their safety and prevent diseases. Also, refrain from bringing salads and other food which may easily spoil due to heat.

"We can all prevent contracting diseases when visiting our dearly departed loved ones. Let us be responsible with our actions and make our visit solemn.", Herbosa ended.
