🌱 Turning Waste into Resource: A Guiuananon's Composting Story 🌱

In Barangay 5, a resident has found a simple yet powerful way to care for both the environment and her family’s food security. By practicing backyard composting of biodegradable wastes from her household, she is able to produce natural fertilizer that now sustains her flourishing backyard garden. 🥬🍅🌶️

What makes this inspiring is that composting doesn’t require a large area—it can be done even in small spaces. With patience and consistency, kitchen scraps and other biodegradable wastes can be transformed into rich compost that nourishes the soil and grows healthy food for the family.

Through composting, we reduce household waste while also growing our own food—a perfect example of how waste reduction and food security can go hand in hand. This is circular economy in action—turning what was once “waste” into something valuable and life-giving. 🌍✨

👉 This practice is simple, cost-effective, and beneficial to everyone. Let us all take inspiration and make backyard composting a part of our daily lives. Together, we can reduce waste and build a greener, more sustainable Guiuan. 💚

COMELEC - Guiuan Supports Waste Management with Used Campaign Tarps Turnover 🗳️♻️

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) - Guiuan has turned over used campaign tarpaulins from the last elections to the LGU Guiuan through MENRO x MGSO. This is part of a joint effort to ensure that election-related wastes are properly managed and recycled.

After the recent elections, LGU Guiuan successfully collected a total of 360 kilos of campaign tarpaulins from various areas—preventing them from contributing to visual clutter and environmental pollution.

MENRO Guiuan expresses its heartfelt thanks to COMELEC Guiuan for their initiative and partnership. Together, we are proving that responsible waste management is possible through cooperation and action.

Through programs like this, election season waste is transformed into an opportunity for reuse and recycling, keeping Guiuan cleaner for everyone. 🌿

♻️ Basura Mo, Bugas Mo – Barangay 4A Joins the Movement ♻️🍚
The Barangay Council of Barangay 4A, led by Punong Barangay Hon. Victorina Pagatpatan, actively joined the LGU Guiuan Solid Waste Management Exchange Program known as “Basura Mo, Bugas Mo.”

In this initiative, Hon. Pagatpatan personally turned over 6 kilos of soft plastic wastes, which were exchanged for 3 kilos of rice—showing that proper waste segregation benefits not just the environment, but the community as well.

Soft plastic wastes include:
🟢 Pre-cleaned cellophanes
🟢 Sachets from coffee, shampoo, powdered drinks, and condiments
🟢 Plastic food wrappers from biscuits, chips, candies, and instant noodles
🟢 Plastic packaging from household goods and groceries

This program does NOT promote the use of soft plastics. Instead, it encourages responsible disposal, ensuring that these non-biodegradable wastes are collected, segregated, and prevented from ending up in our coasts and oceans.

📌 Program Guidelines:
✅ Exchange ratio: 2 kilos of soft plastic waste = 1 kilo of rice
✅ Schedule: Every Friday, at the Municipal General Services Office (MGSO), ground floor of the Municipal Building of Guiuan
✅ Open to: Individuals, households, Barangays, private companies, and other entities

MENRO Guiuan strongly reminds everyone to practice proper waste segregation:
♻️ Recyclables: Mineral water bottles, soft drink bottles, glass bottles, hard plastics, metals, etc.
🌱 Biodegradables: Food scraps, fruit peels, garden waste, etc.
⚠️ Special wastes: Batteries, electronic waste, used oils, tires, light bulbs, etc.

We thank Barangay 4A and all participating communities for taking an active role in keeping Guiuan clean and sustainable. Let’s make every kilo of waste count—for our environment and our future! 🌏💚

The Immaculate Conception School of Guiuan (ICS), through its General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA), invited the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) – Guiuan to deliver a short but meaningful talk on Proper Solid Waste Management (SWM).

During the activity, the ICS GPTA expressed their strong support for the LGU Guiuan’s Solid Waste Management Programs and Initiatives. Parents in attendance also gave their full consent to allow their children to participate in gathering wastes inside or outside the school premises—emphasizing that the journey to a cleaner community begins at home and in school.

MENRO Guiuan stressed that proper solid waste management is not just about compliance—it is about discipline, values, and everyday habits. The children of today must learn early that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility.

The following key agreements were made:
✅ ICS will implement proper waste segregation within the school.
✅ MENRO Guiuan will help link the school with both internal and external partners who can provide waste receptacles designed for recyclables and arrange for their proper collection.
✅ Students will actively join in school-based and community-based waste collection drives to instill lifelong environmental discipline.

Through partnerships like this, we are building a generation that sees waste not as a problem but as an opportunity to care for our planet, while also preventing plastic waste from ending up in our coasts and oceans.🌍💚

MENRO Guiuan extends its gratitude to the ICS administration, GPTA, and parents for their commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable Guiuan.

🔷 Immaculate Conception School of Guiuan, Inc. (ICS)

MENRO Guiuan proudly recognizes the Immaculate Conception School of Guiuan, Inc. (ICS) for raising its own bar in environmental responsibility by reactivating and strengthening its solid waste management (SWM) initiatives.

At ICS, solid waste management is not just a school policy—it's a student-led movement. Students are encouraged to be responsible for their own trash, turning them over at the school gate where officers of the Student Body ensure proper segregation and disposal. Waste segregation at source is also being strictly observed, reinforcing habits that go beyond the classroom.

This is not an overnight success story. It's a growing culture of discipline, accountability, and environmental stewardship—built through collaboration, leadership, and shared responsibility. We are committed to working with Guiuan's young minds - the future of this locality. Inch by inch, and day by day, together we will build a more disciplined, environmentally conscious society.

MENRO Guiuan thanks the school management for its strong commitment and for honing student leadership in the process. We also express our sincere appreciation to Rica Sison for her active collaboration and to Teacher Lorejoy Dagale for taking charge of the ICS Student Body.

🤝 We look forward to more meaningful partnerships with ICS and its dynamic Student Body as we continue working towards a cleaner, greener Guiuan.

Solid waste management is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s make it a way of life.

🌱 BAMDAM RISES: COMMUNITY-LED WASTE SOLUTIONS NOW TAKING ROOT IN ST. GENEVIEVE SITES 1 & 2 (BAMDAM), SAPAO

Something remarkable is happening in Bamdam (St. Genevieve Sites 1 & 2 Housing Project) and we’re proud to share this inspiring milestone with the people of Guiuan.

Through the intensified, strategic, and targeted CEBA (Community Education and Behavioral Adaptation) Campaigns of LGU Guiuan, the seeds of environmental responsibility have finally taken root — and they’re growing into real, community-led change.

✅ Ownership in Action: Residents are no longer waiting for solutions — they ARE the solution. This growing sense of ownership is a sign of deep, values-based understanding of proper solid waste management.

✅ Every Sunday, Without Fail: Segregated waste is now being collected weekly by community volunteers using a top-down tricycle, generously offered by a resident who volunteered his vehicle for the cause.

✅ Affordable, Sustainable: Each household contributes just ₱7.50 a week or ₱30 a month — enough to fuel the tricycle and keep the system running smoothly. No frills, just grassroots action.

✅ Turning Waste Into Worth: Composting is underway! Biodegradable waste is being converted into soil enhancers for their soon-to-rise community garden — a perfect example of circular living.

This is not just a success story — this is a blueprint.

👏 We salute the people of Bamdam. You are the proof that when communities lead, transformation follows.

📢 To our other Barangays — we’re coming to you next. Together let’s build a cleaner and healthier Guiuan, one empowered community at a time.
