A STROKE is an emergency. Remember the symptoms and signs. BE FAST when there is sudden onset:
B - Balance problem associated with dizziness and headache
E - Eye or visual changes such as loss of vision or double vision
F - Face asymmetry or drooping of one side of the face
A - Arm and leg weakness on one side
S - Speech changes such as slurring, inability to speak or understand
Could you immediately bring the person with an acute stroke to the hospital? Stroke can be treated. The earlier, the better. T - Time is important.
You can help by spreading the word, BE FAST. Be a STROKE champion!

May this season brings you great joy and endless blessings. Merry Christmas to each and everyone!!!
As Dr. Ryndell Alava, Vice President for External and Project Coordinator of PLAE, expressed during the ONE for Juan Launch, more sectors of society are beginning to understand the vital role they play in supporting individuals with epilepsy and other neurological conditions. What was once seen solely as a healthcare issue is now recognized as a collective responsibility, with the community playing a key role in promoting better outcomes.
While September, the month of epilepsy awareness, may be coming to a close, our mission is far from over. Together, we will continue to spread awareness, break the stigma, and create a more inclusive environment for those affected by epilepsy and neurological conditions.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Letโs keep fighting, keep supporting, and keep advocating for a brighter future! ๐ช๐
Be sure to follow our page for more updates and upcoming activities as we continue the fight for epilepsy awareness and inclusivity.

Welcome to Alava Med, the official page of the Neurology Clinic of Dr. Ryndell Gonzales Alava.
Dr. Alava is an adult neurologist based in Iloilo City. For more than a decade, he has been attending to patients with stroke, epilepsy, headache, movement disorders, dementia and other neurological diseases in the region. Aside from clinic consultations, it has always been his advocacy to create programs that promote awareness and improve the knowledge of patients on conditions affecting their brain or the nervous system.
In 2011, he founded the GliAl Stroke Support Group, a support group for stroke survivors and their families. The group aims to empower stroke survivors by increasing their knowledge on the treatment and prevention of stroke and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through physical exercise and good nutrition. The group also provides psychological support to the members through stress management seminars, music and arts therapy.
Dr. Alava also started CEREBRUM, the official publication and health journal of his neurology clinic. The complimentary magazine aims to provide written, essential and practical information about the different neurological problems such stroke, epilepsy and dementia. Patientโs experiences are highlighted in articles that inspire and encourage other patients with the same neurological problem.
To continue his advocacy, Dr. Alava created Alava Med. He believes that through this page, more people will be informed and educated on brain health because a healthy brain leads to a healthy and happy life. Brain health matters.
