Today we celebrate World Prematurity Day, where we raise awareness on the challenges faced by preterm newborns. For this year's celebration, it is entitled "Small Actions, Big Impact: Immediate Skin-to-skin care for every baby Everywhere."
This emphasizes the importance of doing immediate skin-to-skin contact, or Kangaroo care in improving neonatal outcomes among preterm babies.

It is also on this day that we take a moment to remember all the tiny babies who were born too soon and didn’t survive, as we send our love to all the parents who never got to take them home.

Aside from raising awareness on the burdens of preterm birth, today is also a day of celebration for all our tiny babies and their families who survived this long and difficult journey. As a neonatologist, I have witnessed the hardships these little warriors and their parents go through, and it is truly rewarding every time I get to send them home as a family.
