From being the first batch of trainees last 2019 to now a trainer at the Basic Endoscopy Skills Training (BEST) Workshop for GI Fellows-in-Training.
 
All thanks to the vigorous efforts of the Philippine Society of Digestive Endoscopy (PSDE) in collaboration with the Academy of Endoscopy (AOE), headed Professor Roy Soetikno, and supported by the Philippine Society of Gastroenterology (PSG) to improve the standards of digestive endoscopy in our country.
 
It was a productive two-day workshop learning from our international faculty – Dr. Parit Mekaroonkamol, Dr. Wenfeng Hsu, Dr. Rabbinu Rangga, Dr. Saskia Aziza, and Dr. Virly Muzellina together with our local instructors – Dr. Patricia Anne Prodigalidad, Dr. Mark Anthony De Lusong, Dr. Eric Yasay, Dr. Carlos Francisco, Dr. Enrik Aguila, Dr. Marc Navarro, Dr. Ruter Maralit, Dr. Jonard Co, and Dr. Suji Mansukhani.

This is a case of a 52 year old male who presented with abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowish discoloration of eyes and skin) and tea-colored urine. On imaging, there was a stone obstructing the distal part of the common bile duct causing his symptoms.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a specialized procedure together with the use of x-ray to diagnose and treat biliary or pancreatic diseases.

In this particular case, ERCP was done to gain access into the common bile duct (CBD) using a side-viewing scope. With a guidewire (photo 1), a small stone was seen at the distal CBD after injecting contrast dye (photo 2). A balloon catheter was then used to sweep the stone out of the CBD (photo 3). After which, a plastic stent was inserted (photo 4) until the patient undergoes a cholecystectomy wherein his gallbladder will be removed surgically.
