You ever feel like you finally got what you wanted, but whatever you had to lose in the process - or your opportunity cost - made you realize that what you thought you wouldโve wanted, wasnโt even that worth it?
Itโs like making a bet, only to realize that the machine wasnโt at all built to make you win. It was designed to keep you wanting, so the odds were ever so slim. They win, you lose; thatโs how it always turns out in the end.
Just like how slot machines in casinos are built, thatโs how most of the systems in society are designed. It lures us into โwantingโ things to keep the ego running โ cheap thrills, quick fixes, short dopamine boosts. So you make it look like youโre happy and that you got everything in order. You perform to be the best citizen of society, apply for a job, and train yourself to be the best employee.
But where does that root from? The desire to be loved. To be accepted as who you are and who you could become. To feel something, and to feel it all, very deeply.
To finally feel alive, where you can say, โIโm living a life I could call mine.โ
Some people are happy with this life, because theyโve understood who they are early on. But when you catch yourself asking:
โWhy am I even doing this? What was there to gain in the first place?โ
That longing is of no coincidence. That is your soulโs true calling, whispering messages of guidance from your higher self.
You shall continue to decay should you choose to stay blind, looking for that high. But when you come back home to who you truly are, all of the stars will just align.
So, get off of that hamster wheel. Stop repressing your longing for something authentic, or stop avoiding the grief โ by stuffing it down with food, money, alcohol, ci******es, drugs, getting busy, or anything addictive โ just so you wonโt have to pause, feel, and reflect through everything.
The longing to have a grip of your life โ was it really the past, or some future moment that could save you, which you seek? Or was it the peace that came with it?
