The Generics Act of 1988 is a law that declares the policy to promote, require and ensure the production and use of drugs identified by their generic names. The law aims to supply and promote low-priced quality medicines as alternatives to the more expensive originator brands. The law also requires physicians to include both the generic and brand names of the medicines in their prescriptions.
