1. First Trimester (up to 12 weeks):
• One visit is recommended during this period.
• This initial visit includes confirming the pregnancy, estimating the due date, conducting basic laboratory tests (such as urinalysis, blood type, CBC, etc.), and screening for any health conditions that could affect the pregnancy.

2. Second Trimester (13 to 28 weeks):
• One visit every month (at least two to three visits).
• These visits involve monitoring the growth and development of the baby, checking the mother’s weight and blood pressure, and addressing any concerns related to fetal movement and maternal health.

3. Third Trimester (29 to 40 weeks):
• One visit every two weeks from 28 to 36 weeks.
• Weekly visits from 36 weeks until delivery.
• These frequent visits help monitor the baby’s position, fetal heart rate, and maternal signs of labor. The healthcare provider will also check for any complications such as preeclampsia.

Total recommended prenatal visits: At least 8 visits throughout the pregnancy.

1. Iron:

• Prevents anemia: Iron is necessary for producing hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to the body. During pregnancy, a woman’s blood volume increases by about 50%, requiring more iron to support both her and the baby’s oxygen needs.
• Supports baby’s development: Iron helps in the baby’s growth and development, particularly in the formation of the brain and muscles.
• Prevents low birth weight and preterm birth: Adequate iron levels reduce the risk of low birth weight and premature delivery.
• Boosts maternal energy: Preventing iron deficiency anemia helps the mother maintain her energy levels, reducing fatigue and supporting overall well-being during pregnancy.

2. Folic Acid:

• Prevents neural tube defects (NTDs): Folic acid (vitamin B9) is crucial for the proper development of the baby’s neural tube, which later forms the brain and spinal cord. Adequate folic acid intake helps prevent NTDs, such as spina bifida and anencephaly.
• Supports DNA synthesis and cell growth: Folic acid is essential for the rapid growth of the placenta and the baby, especially in the early stages of pregnancy when cells divide rapidly.
• Reduces the risk of other birth defects: In addition to NTDs, folic acid can reduce the risk of other congenital anomalies, such as heart defects and cleft lip or palate.
