General Safety and Injury Prevention:

Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwater; as little as six inches of fast-moving water can knock you over or sweep a vehicle away. "Turn Around, Don't Drown!".

Avoid contact with floodwater as it may contain sewage, chemicals, sharp debris, and downed power lines, which pose risks of disease, injury, and electrocution.

Stay away from damaged buildings or unstable structures until authorities declare them safe to enter.
Be aware of electrical hazards; do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water. Turn off the electricity, gas, and water to your home if it's safe to do so.

Use flashlights or battery-operated lanterns instead of candles to reduce fire risk.
Watch out for animals displaced by the flood, such as snakes and rodents.
