HISTORY
The congregation of the Servants of Jesus of Charity came to Bicol region in 1994 and established their first apostolic mission in the region in Iriga City. Their apostolic mission is to serve the sick, the elderly and the needy. They put up a Dispensary for this purpose and invited local practitioners to do charity service, a volunteer practitioners brought up the idea to put up a hospital in Iriga City to the Sisters which was conveyed to the Mother General in Spain sometime in July 1997. The Mother General approved the idea to put up a hospital so that the congregation can serve fully their apostolic mission and at the same time improved the medical facilities in the city. Together with the support of the religious groups in the Archdiocese and guidance of the Divine Providence, the Mother General of the congregation based in Bilbao, Spain initiated the establishment of Sta. Maria Josefa Hospital Foundation, Inc. in coordination with the Spanish government through the Agencia Espanola de Cooperacion International. The Sta. Maria Josefa Hospital Foundation, Inc. upholds and support values, principles and moral percepts of Catholic Church, and support ideals and commitment of the Servants of Jesus of Charity, inspired by the spirituality and charisma of its foundress, where from the Heart of Jesus she receives feelings of kindness and mercy to look after the sick. Sta. Maria Josefa Hospital Foundation, Inc. opened to public in June 2000 during the feast day of the Scared Heat of Jesus as Blessed Maria Josefa Hospital, Inc. On October 1, 2000 the Mother Foundress of the Congregation, Maria Josefa Sancho de Guerra was canonized by the Roman Catholic Church as saint in Vatican.
