It’s 11 o’clock at night. Doctor G had just finished an operation and was heading downstairs, exhausted but calm. Suddenly, another hospital was calling about a patient.

He politely declined since he is needing some rest after just completing an operation. As he got into the car to go home, curious, I asked, “How old is the patient?”

“Three months old,” he replied quietly.

A few seconds later, he received a text from the same hospital, asking what time he’d be available in the morning. He didn’t replied to the text. Instead, without a word, he changed route turning the car back toward the hospital. (40mins away) “Maam, papunta na po ako”

Surprised, I looked at him. That’s when I heard him say, I don’t stay up through the night, miss meals, or hold a stranger’s hand in their worst moment for money. I do it because something inside me says I must. This profession is a calling🥹

So maoto, 3am nami nakaabot sa balay. Here’s to the doctors who sacrifice sleep, time, and comfort all in the name of saving lives.
