Managing contact dermatitis starts with gentle cleansing using tepid water and hypoallergenic soap. For irritant types, colloidal oatmeal baths and emollients help restore the skin barrier. Oral antihistamines may ease itching, but avoid first-generation ones in older adults. Topical corticosteroids are generally not preferred.
