More than an annual observance, this year’s celebration serves as a call for Women and Everyone (WE) to take part and take charge in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. Anchored on the sub-theme, “𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒃𝒂𝒚𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒔, 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒔!”, we honor the legacy of the Babaylans, women leaders in pre-colonial Philippines who guided their communities with wisdom, empathy, inclusivity, and moral courage.

DOH ZP CHD reaffirms its commitment to strengthening gender-responsive and inclusive health programs, recognizing that women’s full participation is vital in building healthier, more resilient communities and a stronger nation.

Together, let us champion equality and empower leadership, para sa Bagong Pilipinas Bawat Buhay Mahalaga!

Strategic Coordination Meeting Between IOM and IPHO-Sulu Advances Priority Health Outcomes

On February 26, 2026, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) paid a courtesy visit to the Integrated Provincial Health Office–Sulu (IPHO-Sulu), convening a coordination meeting to strengthen institutional collaboration and align priority programs on health.

The IPHO-Sulu, spearheaded by Dr. Nehama Nemertina Q. Tan-Singki, MHA, PHO I/Medical Center Chief I, together with the IPHO-Sulu technical team, reaffirmed its shared commitment with IOM as both institutions continue to engage in strengthening health systems, promoting safe motherhood and adolescent reproductive health, and advancing global health security.

The IOM, spearheaded by Ms. Erina Yamash*ta, Head of the IOM Cotabato Sub-Office; Mr. Dante Eleuterio, Head of the IOM Zamboanga Satellite Office; and Ms. Haifa Abdilla, National Migration Health Programme Coordinator, discussed ongoing IOM-supported interventions and proposed activities for 2026. The meeting likewise explored strategic opportunities for enhanced coordination, technical assistance, and resource mobilization.

IPHO-Sulu expresses its sincere appreciation for IOM’s continued partnership and affirms its dedication to sustaining joint efforts that advance humanitarian response.

IPHO–Sulu Successfully Defends and Passes TWG Deliberation for Malaria-Free Province

The IPHO-Sulu proudly announces the successful defense and approval of the malaria elimination reports during the Technical Working Group (TWG) Deliberation for Sulu’s Malaria-Free status, held on February 19, 2026, at Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central, Metro Manila.

Following a comprehensive evaluation conducted in October 2025 by the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau of the Department of Health – Central Office, the province of Sulu has successfully met all standards and passed the deliberation for national malaria elimination. The defense and presentation of reports were spearheaded by OIC PHO II Dr. Nhamier Jikiri, together with the IPHO–Sulu malaria elimination team.

The IPHO–Sulu, under the administration of OIC PHO II Dr. Nhamier M. Jikiri, MBA-MHA, FPCP, recognizes and honors Dr. Fahra A. Tan-Omar, MHA, former Provincial Health Officer II, who initiated the malaria elimination efforts and laid the foundation for this legacy. The office likewise extends its congratulations and heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, partner hospitals, rural health units, and local government units whose coordinated efforts made this record possible. More than the recognition, this historic milestone symbolizes hope and renewed commitment in sustaining healthier generations to come.
