IPHO–Sulu Joins Capacity-Building on the New Procurement Act (RA 12009)

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)–Sulu successfully participated in the Training on the New Procurement Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (RA 12009), held on March 25–27, 2026, at Citystate Asturias Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Conducted by Leadership Engagement for Development, Governance, and Ethics, Inc. (LEDGE) Training Institution, in partnership with the Government Procurement Policy Board–Technical Support Office (GPPB-TSO), the activity highlighted the shift from Republic Act No. 9184 to the New Procurement Act (RA 12009). It aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the updated procurement framework, strengthen compliance with its implementing rules, and promote transparency, efficiency, and accountability in government procurement processes.

The event convened Heads of Procuring Entities (HoPE), members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC), and Technical Working Groups (TWGs) from various government agencies.

IPHO–Sulu Participates in Orientation on Newly Launched LIPH Information System (LIPH IS)

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)–Sulu, in partnership with the Department of Health – Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health Development (DOH–ZP CHD), through the Local Investment Plan for Health (LIPH), successfully participated in the Orientation on the newly launched LIPH Information System (LIPH IS), held on March 31, 2026, at Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.

The orientation gathered key members of the provincial and city LIPH teams, including health officers, LIPH coordinators, encoders, and Technical Working Group (TWG) members. The activity aimed to introduce the functionalities and features of the newly launched LIPH Information System, and enhance participants’ capacity in digital health planning in line with national health priorities.

Municipality of Indanan Highlights SDI Insertion in Women’s Month Celebration

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Indanan Rural Health Unit (RHU), in collaboration with Indanan Women’s Council, successfully conducted an orientation on Subdermal Implant (SDI) Insertion on March 31, 2026, at the Indanan Municipal Hall Covered Court, Pasil, Indanan, Sulu.

The activity was anchored on the theme, “We for Gender Equality, Inclusive Society,” emphasizing the promotion of equitable access to reproductive health services. This gathered mothers and women of reproductive age and aimed to increase awareness on modern family planning methods, particularly the benefits, safety, and effectiveness of SDI as a long-acting reversible contraceptive.

Safe Motherhood and Family Planning Programs Coordinator, Mrs. Aimee I. Roldan-Schuck, RM, RN, delivered a message of support, highlighting the role of family planning in ensuring healthier families and communities. Also present was VAWC Focal Person Ms. Sitti Hyfha-neza A. Alsad, RND, who reinforced the importance of protecting women’s rights and addressing gender-based violence as part of a holistic approach to women’s health and empowerment.

IPHO–Sulu Participates in Regional Cancer Control Program Review and Strategic Planning

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) – Sulu, in coordination with the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Zamboanga Peninsula through the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Cluster – Cancer Control and Prevention Program, actively participated in the 2-Day Cancer Prevention and Control Program Implementation Review and Strategic Planning (PIR) held on March 25–26, 2026, at Ever-O Hotel, Zamboanga City.

The activity reviewed 2025 accomplishments, identified implementation gaps, and assessed regional performance based on national cancer control indicators. It also guided the development of evidence-based strategies for 2026 and beyond. Updates on PhilHealth Konsulta cancer packages, FHSIS 2026 indicators, and key DOH initiatives were presented, alongside participants’ action plans across cities and provinces.

Representing IPHO–Sulu were Non-Communicable Diseases Program Coordinator Mrs. Cherry Belle L. Asaali-Mansujeto, RN, and Parang Municipal Health Officer Dr. Yasmin A. Abdurajan, MPH, MHA.

Nutrition Leadership and Governance: Nutrition Program Management (NLG:NPM) Training

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)–Sulu, in partnership with the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) National Project Management Office and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), successfully conducted the Nutrition Leadership and Governance: Nutrition Program Management (NLG:NPM) Training on March 23–27, 2026, at the Sulu Provincial Women’s Council (WCPP) in Jolo, Sulu.

Nine (9) municipalities under PMNP participated in the capacity-building activity, which aimed to strengthen local leadership, accountability, and coordination in addressing nutrition challenges within the First 1,000 Days (F1KD) framework. The training emphasized the development of responsive, municipality-specific strategies to ensure sustainable interventions and improved maternal and child nutrition outcomes.

The event gathered together Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO), Provincial Nutrition Coordinator (PNC), alongside members of the Municipal Nutrition Committees (MNCs), including Local Chief Executives, Sangguniang Bayan Chairpersons on Health, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, and Municipal Health Officers or Public Health Nurses.

Panamao RHU Highlights Maternal Health and Safe Motherhood in Women’s Month Celebration

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Panamao Rural Health Unit (RHU) conducted series of activities focused on Safe Motherhood, held on March 30, 2026, at Panamao RHU, anchored on the theme “Empowered Mothers, Healthy Futures: Babaeng May Kaalaman, Ligtas ang Kapanganakan.”

The activity gathered pregnant women aimed at promoting safe motherhood, strengthening birth preparedness, and increasing awareness on maternal and newborn health services.

Rural Health Physician Dr. Fatima Raaysa Arani led discussions on “Kwento ng Kapanganakan” and “Hawnu in Kabayaan ku Manganak?”, while activities on “Bunnal iban Kissa-kissa ha Hal Pag-anak” was presented by Ms. Rakma Ismael, RM. An orientation on the Birthing Facility and referral pathways was facilitated by Ms. Rhodora Sahibad, RM. Safe Motherhood Program (SMP) Coordinator Mrs. Aimee Roldan-Shuck, RM, RN, delivered a message of support, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in ensuring maternal and child health.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)–Sulu, under OIC PHO II Dr. Nhamier M. Jikiri, together with the Panamao RHU, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the rights, protection, and well-being of women and children as key partners in nation-building.
