IPHO News | Training on Heel Prick, Expanded Newborn Screening National Policy and Strategic Framework Orientation for Newborn Screening Coordinators on August 5-6 2025.

The training aims to provide Knowledge that aims to identify newborns risks for specific metabolic, hormonal, genetic, and blood disorders. Enable early treatment to improve long-term health outcomes and reduce the morbidity and mortality. Moreover, participants also undergo heel prick method practicum.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office- Sulu highly appreciate the Ministry of Health- BARMM, Southern Philippines Medical Center - Newborn Screening Center - Mindanao, Zamboanga City Medical Center- Newborn Continuity Clinic, and Center for Human Genetics Service-Mindanao Institute of Human Genetics, NIH, UP Manila as the key contributors to make the activity successful.

IPHO- Sulu is fully committed to deliver basic health services to the underserved and unserved areas through it’s hospitals, Rural Health Units, and Barangay Health Station.

Jikiri, MBA-MHA, on his recent appointment as the OIC Provincial Health Officer II and Dr. Nehama Nemertina Q. Tan-Singki, MHA, appointed as the Medical Center Chief I.

Dr. Jikiri and Dr. Singki are ready to inspire change in their new roles, armed with a wealth of experience and expertise, alongside a steadfast commitment to continue advancing health services in the province.

IPHO NEWS | The Integrated Provincial Health Office – Sulu (IPHO-Sulu), successfully held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Hemodialysis Unit of the Sulu Provincial Hospital on August 5, 2025, at the IPHO-SPH Grounds, Jolo, Sulu.

The ceremony commenced with the ribbon-cutting and walkthrough of the hemodialysis unit. Also held was the formal turn-over of the financial grant of:
1. Twenty-Three Million Pesos for Oxygen-Generating Plant to IPHO-Sulu under Special Development Fund 2024;
2. Ten (10) Million Pesos to Sulu Provincial Hospital extended through Tulong Medical Assistance 2025 of MP Atty. Nabil A. Tan; and
3. Ten (10) Million Pesos to Maimbung District Hospital extended through Tulong Medical Assistance 2025 of MP Atty. Nabil A. Tan

This milestone marks a historic advancement in the province’s healthcare system—introducing, a fully operational hemodialysis facility.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) – Sulu successfully held the Turn Over Ceremony of Essential Medicines on August 4, 2025, at the Mini Dr. Orosa Hall, IPHO-Sulu.

The ceremonial turn-over marks the province’s continuing efforts in enhancing access to life-saving pharmaceutical commodities. This reaffirms the shared commitment of governance and logistics to accessible and equitable health care delivery.

The IPHO-Sulu extends its profound gratitude to Members of Parliament from the Bangsamoro Transition Authority—BARMM: Deputy Speaker MP Abdulkarim T. Misuari; MP NurRedha I. Misuari; and FMP Denmartin Kahalan, for their continued support to universal health care services in Sulu province.

IPHO NEWS | The Integrated Provincial Health Office of Sulu, in collaboration with the National and Immunization Program (NIP) under the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, has successfully completed a comprehensive Mid-Level Management Roll-out Training for Healthcare Workers from July 21 to July 24, 2025.

The core objective of the training was to enhance the skills and competencies of healthcare professionals who are instrumental in driving immunization efforts within the province. Participants engaged in a variety of interactive workshops and sessions that covered critical topics such as vaccination protocols, data management, community outreach, and best practices for improving immunization coverage.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions that covered a wide array of essential topics and a field visit to the office of the Mayor of Jolo Municipal Government as well as the Rural Health Units and Barangay Health Stations of Jolo, Patikul, and Indanan. These included advanced vaccine management techniques to ensure the integrity and efficacy of immunization and detailed data reporting processes that are critical for tracking immunization coverage and effectiveness. Furthermore, the training featured community engagement strategies designed to involve local populations in vaccination campaigns, fostering trust and increasing participation rates.

A significant focus was placed on systematic supportive supervision, aimed at equipping health professionals with the right tools needed to guide and support frontline workers effectively. Best practices for immunization were also shared, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards in service delivery.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to our partners in health, UNICEF and the National Immunization Program MOH Team, for their unwavering support and tireless dedication in empowering Sulu's health professionals with essential knowledge and skills. IPHO NEWS | The "Catch and Change" initiative, aimed at documenting and promoting good practices in health, was successfully conducted on June 9, 2025, in the municipality of Talipao, Sulu. This significant event was spearheaded by Provincial Health Officer II, Dr. Fahra Tan-Omar, Provincial Health Officer II.

The documentation effort was a collaborative efforts that brought together several key stakeholders in the health sector. Dr. Miriam Cecilia B. Sales from the Department of Health and Engr. Tohami B. Ibrahim, representing the Ministry of Health of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

IPHO NEWS | The Municipality of Luuk proudly marked a historic milestone as it was officially declared the first Zero Open Defecation (ZOD)-declared municipality in the province of Sulu.

Gathering key stakeholders from the Municipal Health Office, Sulu PPDO, MILG Luuk, MLGO Luuk, MSSD, MPS Luuk, BFP Luuk, PCG Luuk, ARMY Engineering, ARMY Brigade, MBHTE, MOH WASH, and IPHO-Sulu Technical Division, the ceremony was declared by the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)-Sulu, spearheaded by the Provincial Health Officer II, Dr. Fahra A. Tan-Omar, MHA, following the set criteria in (PHATSS).

This forms part of the agency’s continuing efforts to strengthen institutional disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness.

READ | We would like to inform the community that the IPHO-Sulu Provincial Hospital will be conducting an important Fire and Earthquake Safety Drill on June 17, 2025, at 9:00 AM. This drill is designed to enhance our disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of all patients, staff, and visitors in the event of an emergency.

During the drill, participants will practice evacuation procedures and follow safety protocols to familiarize themselves with the necessary steps to take in case of a real fire or earthquake.

Please remain calm, your cooperation is essential in helping us create a safer environment for all.
