🌧️ Due to the recent heavy rains and flooding in many areas, there’s a growing risk of leptospirosis — a serious bacterial infection that spreads through water contaminated by the urine of infected animals, especially rats. Even small cuts or wounds on your skin can allow the bacteria to enter your body. 🐀💧
🦠 Leptospirosis can be life-threatening if left untreated. It can lead to complications like kidney damage, liver failure, meningitis, and in severe cases, death.
👀 Know the warning signs:
📍High fever
📍Red eyes
📍Skin rash
📍Abdominal pain
📍Headache
📍Muscle aches
📍Diarrhea
📍Vomiting
📍aundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
✅ Prevent infection by:
📍Avoiding wading or swimming in floodwaters
📍Wearing boots and protective gloves if contact is unavoidable
📍Covering any cuts or abrasions with waterproof bandages
📍Washing hands and body thoroughly after flood exposure
📍Taking prophylactic antibiotics, but only as prescribed by your doctor
🩺 If you experience any of the symptoms above — especially after exposure to floodwaters — consult a physician immediately. Early treatment with antibiotics can prevent serious complications.
