The radial nerve is the largest nerve in the upper limb. When injured, it results in radial neuropathy. It is commonly injured from trauma, such as a humeral shaft fracture affecting the radial nerve near the radial or spiral groove. It supplies strength to the muscles for elbow extension, wrist extension and finger extension, as well as contributing to elbow flexion, forearm supination, and thumb extension. It also provides sensation to the skin overlying the posterior arm, forearm, and hand.

Patients with radial nerve injury usually presents with a wrist drop. They can also present with weakness of wrist and finger extensors.

The management and prognosis depend on its severity and presence of other factors such as presence of fractures and comorbidities.

To know more about radial neuropathy, talk to a Rehabilitation Medicine specialist. To schedule an appointment, text 09230896188/ 09171645181.

A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone. Bone fractures are often caused by fall, injury, or a direct hit to the body.

There are many types of fractures, but the main categories are displaced, non-displaced, open, and closed. Fractures can also be categorized based on its cause. Overuse or repetitive motions can cause stress fractures. There are also fractures resulting from low energy trauma, such as a fall from standing height or less, called fragility fractures and are considered a sign of underlying osteoporosis.

Management depends on the patient's type of fracture, age, comorbidities, etc. Recuperation time varies depending also on the age and health of the patient and the type of fracture.

To know more about the physical rehabilitation management of fractures, talk to a Rehabilitation Medicine specialist. To schedule an appointment, text 09230896188/ 09171645181.
