The Department of Health – Cordillera (DOH-CAR) joined Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) in celebrating World Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2025. Centered on the theme “Safe care for every newborn and every child: Patient Safety from the start,” the event involved DOH-CAR’s Health Facility Development Unit (HFDU) led by Dr. Alexei P. Marrero, BeGH’s Patient Safety Committee, medical staff, and resource speakers. The focus was on protecting newborns and children from harm through safer healthcare practices.
Established by the World Health Assembly in 2019, World Patient Safety Day aims to raise global awareness, foster public engagement, and promote patient safety. The 2025 theme highlights the increased vulnerability of children to unsafe care and emphasizes the link between safe pediatric care, universal health coverage, and the goal of ending preventable deaths among children under five.
The day’s activities included lectures and discussions led by Dr. Ellaine Loise T. Viloria, who highlighted neonatal safety and the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act (RA 11229). An open forum followed, featuring health officials and hospital staff who discussed patient safety measures at BeGH after a walkthrough of the pediatric department.
Dr. Daisy Mae Tagudar underscored the critical role of safe healthcare delivery and reaffirmed the commitment of health workers to provide effective and safe care, especially for newborns. The event recognized the dedication of healthcare professionals in fostering a culture of safety and encouraged continued efforts to enhance patient safety throughout the hospital.
