"Igniting Hope and Awareness: World AIDS Day Celebration and Launching of To***co & V**e Free Lamut"
On December 4, 2024, Lawig National High School conducted a powerful and multi-faceted celebration of World AIDS Day, engaging 658 Senior High School students in activities that raised awareness about health, unity, and community action. Centered on the theme โTake the RIGHTS Pathโ the event also launched complementary advocacy initiatives, amplifying its impact on youth and the community.
The day began with a lively Motorcade, where participants paraded through Lamut, carrying banners and posters to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS, to***co and v**e-free living, and drug prevention. The motorcade set the tone for a day of education, reflection, and advocacy.
The program commenced with the Launching of To***co and V**e-Free Lamut, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting a healthier community. The launch included an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign, where speakers highlighted the risks of to***co and v**e use, especially among youth. Attendees were encouraged to adopt and advocate for smoke-free and v**e-free lifestyles.
To further emphasize the importance of a drug-free environment, the program also featured a Drug Awareness Session. Experts shared valuable insights into the dangers of drug use and the significance of making informed, healthy life choices. Students were inspired to act as advocates for a drug-free community.
Following this, there was an orientation on HIV/AIDS Awareness, led by health professionals who provided a comprehensive discussion on HIV transmission, prevention, treatment, and the importance of ending stigma. Students actively engaged in the session, asking insightful questions and expressing a commitment to understanding and spreading awareness.
A solemn Candle Lighting Ceremony and Prayer served as the heart of the event. Candles were lit as a symbol of hope, remembrance, and unity for those affected by HIV/AIDS. A collective prayer followed, calling for healing, solidarity, and the strength to build a future free of disease and discrimination.
To complement the advocacy efforts, two health initiatives were conducted:
1. Blood Typing Activity โ Students learned their blood types, empowering them with crucial health knowledge for emergencies.
2. HIV Screening โ Free and confidential HIV testing was offered to encourage early detection and stress the importance of regular health check-ups.
The success of the event was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the school administration, local health officials, and community stakeholders. Together, they created a platform for education, advocacy, and empowerment.
With 658 students actively participating, Lawig National High School proved its dedication to fostering a compassionate, health-conscious, and informed youth. This yearโs celebration not only honored World AIDS Day but also launched vital initiatives that will continue to benefit the community in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to***co and v**e use, and drug abuse.
