The program formally commenced on January 29 with a comprehensive orientation on hospital policies, safety protocols, and professional conduct. The orientation was facilitated by Mr. Luigi Keian S. Ramos from the Office of the Hospital Administrator and Mr. Mark Louie S. Salvatierra, RN from the Nursing Service. The speakers emphasized the importance of discipline, confidentiality, infection prevention measures, and the observance of ethical standards while inside the hospital premises. They also encouraged the students to maximize the opportunity by observing closely, asking questions, and learning from healthcare professionals.
Following the orientation, the students were given a guided tour around the hospital to familiarize them with its key departments and service areas. Joining the tour was Ms. Rhodora Carmen P. Alonzo, PTRP, who helped introduce the students to various clinical units and explained the functions of different healthcare professionals within the multidisciplinary team. The tour allowed the students to gain an overview of hospital workflows, patient pathways, and the collaborative efforts required in delivering quality healthcare.
Throughout the 10-day immersion, the students were assigned to different hospital areas where they were exposed to the realities of patient care and hospital operations. Under the guidance and supervision of LCGH staff, they observed nursing procedures, patient monitoring, documentation processes, and the daily routines involved in ensuring patient safety and comfort. They also witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by healthcare workers, including managing time-sensitive tasks, responding to patient needs, and maintaining professionalism even during demanding situations.
The immersion provided the students with valuable insights into the nursing profession and the broader healthcare system. By interacting with nurses and other hospital personnel, they developed a deeper appreciation for the compassion, patience, and resilience required in the field. Many of them expressed that the experience broadened their understanding of healthcare beyond textbooks and classroom discussions.
On February 13, 2026, an exit conference was conducted to formally conclude the program. During the conference, the students conveyed their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the hospital administration and staff for welcoming them and mentoring them throughout the immersion. Several students shared that the experience changed their perspective in life and gave them a renewed sense of purpose. They highlighted how witnessing real patient care situations helped them understand the true essence of service, empathy, and responsibility in the nursing profession.
The students particularly lauded the nurses of LCGH for their patience, professionalism, and dedication, especially in handling challenging cases during their tour of duty. They noted how the nurses remained calm, compassionate, and attentive to patients despite the pressures of the hospital environment.
Dr. Mary Ann Yasay-Luis, Chief of Clinics, addressed the students during the exit conference. In her message, she commended them for their active participation, discipline, and eagerness to learn throughout the 10-day immersion. She emphasized the importance of patient-centered care, reminding the students that beyond clinical skills, healthcare is ultimately about compassion, respect, and understanding the needs of every patient.
The program concluded with the awarding of Certificates of Completion to the students, recognizing their successful participation in the Work Immersion Program.
