Leprosy is a treatable medical condition … somehow stigma remains and patients are adamant at seeking medical care… or lesions have been dismissed as on “ordinary condition” that will eventually pass, or misdiagnosed.
… despite WHO programs for eradication, the Philippines still has to catch up. Goal is O case by 2030, yet, to date we still get to see patients positive to this disease.
… Let us increase awareness. Early diagnosis means early treatment, less exposure thereby preventing further spread.
Here in Ilocos Norte, once diagnosed, patient is referred to MHO of the Rural Health Unit for free medications as provided by the WHO.
