1st time ko po ma-dyaryo as Teacher Kaye Talks 🥹
Medyo may artistic license lang yung ibang quoted sa akin (I did not say, "I was on my knees and crying...") but thankfully, the more crucial parts were intact.
"Now, 10 years into my practice, all my experiences have shown me that WE change, WE adapt to how we accommodate the needs of all these people. We become stronger, and celebrate those we help."
It's about changing perceptions. "It's important to talk about the full range of the spectrum," she said, noting that what most people know about autism is what they watched in the K-Drama "Extraordinary Attorney Woo."
"Not all of them are Attorney Woos and not all of them are children who can't speak, as portrayed in the media. The first thing we can do is to go on social media and see what they themselves (Autistics) are talking about. What can I do to better interact with the ones I work with? And we have to talk about Autism openly, honestly, and respectfully."
Thank you to MYLO Speech Buddy for the opportunity to talk about Speech-Language Pathology, the importance of therapy and early intervention, and of even greater importance -- what families do at home for the rest of the 99.4% of the child's time. (Yes, computed po yan kapag 1 hour a week lang ang therapy).
Thank you also to my Ninang who sent me the physical clipping 🥰 or I wouldn't even have known about this!
Happy talking, MABUHAY 🇵🇭
