Due to increased risk and severity of animal bites in children, pre-exposure prophylaxis for rabies is now part of routine vaccination for children ages 2-10 years old, according to the PIDSP Childhood Immunization Schedule 2025. Given as a 2-dose series, 7 days apart.

To compare, if given as a post-exposure prophylaxis, number of doses is 4 if without prior rabies vaccinations (plus immunoglobulin if category III). Giving rabies vaccine BEFORE any animal bite exposure decreases your risk (and is more economical). ☺️

This is a great safety guide for children swimming in lakes and swimming pools. The color of the bathing suit can make it easier or more difficult to see children while they are swimming.
