A photo showing droplets of breast milk fending off armies of harmful bacteria in Petri dishes is going viral on Facebook.⁣

The photo, posted by a biology student in England, features nine Petri dishes completely colonized with the bacteria M. Luteus, except in the center, where tiny puddles of breast milk have created what looks like “moats” of protection around themselves.⁣

The student, Vicky Green, said she had similar results with Petri dishes full of e.Coli and the dreaded anti-biotic resistant “super bug” MRSA.⁣

“The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk,” Green wrote in the caption of her post. “See the clear bit around the discs ― that’s where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria!”⁣

An article from YourPediatrician.com explains how this is possible:⁣

“About 80 percent of the cells in breast milk are macrophages, cells that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses. Breast-fed babies are protected, in varying degrees, from a number of illnesses, including pneumonia, botulism, bronchitis, staphylococcal infections, influenza, ear infections, and German measles. Furthermore, mothers produce antibodies to whatever disease is present in their environment, making their milk custom-designed to fight the diseases their babies are exposed to as well.”⁣

What’s even more impressive is that the samples of milk in the photos came from the mother of a 15-month-old and a 3-year-old, providing further evidence that breast milk continues to protect against illness long beyond infancy.

The DOH, UP-PGC and UP-NIH today report the detection of additional 516 cases with the Delta variant, 81 cases with the Beta variant, 73 cases with the Alpha variant, 41 cases with the P.3 variant from the latest batch of samples sequenced by the UP-PGC. A total of 748 samples were sequenced for this batch.

Of the 748 samples sequenced, 68.9% had the Delta variant, 10.8% had the Beta variant, 9.7% had the Alpha variant, 5.4% had the P.3 variant, while the rest were other variants of interest (VOIs).

Everyone is reminded to immediately isolate upon experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 and coordinate with BHERTs to get immediate assistance. Moreover, the DOH urges the public to choose to get vaccinated for free to protect themselves and their families against COVID-19.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION.

First, linawin muna natin ang terms

𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵 - Corona Virus Disease 2019. Eto ang sakit.
𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗦-𝗖𝗼𝗩-𝟮 – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2. Ito ang virus na may gawa ng COVID-19. Ang lumang tawag dito ay 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟵-𝗻𝗖𝗢𝗩.

𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘢𝘯. 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘐𝘋𝘚 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘵. 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘯𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘐𝘝.

1. RAPID DIAGNOSTIC TEST (𝗥𝗗𝗧)
2. 𝗣𝗖𝗥 (POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION) or SWAB TEST

𝗔𝗡𝗢 𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗜𝗗 𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗚𝗡𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧?

1. IgM+ & IgG-
2. IgM- & IgG+
3. IgM+ & IgG+
4. IgM- & IgG-

𝗜𝗴𝗠 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘, 𝗜𝗴𝗚 𝗡𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘

Kapag positive ka sa IgM, ibig sabihin ay 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 ka. May SARS-CoV-2 ka at pwede kang makahawa.

Ano ang dapat gawin?
1. Confirmatory test (PCR)
2. Isolate for 2 weeks
3. I-trace ang mga close contacts mo in the last 2 weeks dahil pwedeng nahawaan mo sila. Dapat ay ma-test din sila.

2. No need for confirmatory test dapat kasi base sa mga pinakahuling datos ng WHO, hindi ka na makakahawa kahit may ma-detect pang konting virus. Pagaling ka na totally. Pero dito sa “Pinas, kailangan pa rin.
3. I-trace ang mga close contacts in the last 3 weeks dahil pwedeng nahawaan mo sila. Dapat ay ma-test din sila.

𝗜𝗴𝗠 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘, 𝗜𝗴𝗚 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘

In both cases, pareho lang ang gagawin. Pwede mong ulitin ang test after 7-14 days.

𝗔𝗡𝗢 𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗖𝗥?

Pag positive, same recommendation pag IgM+ except the confirmatory test.

𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥

Wear your mask when interacting with people or when in the same space with them, sanitize hands regularly, maintain physical distancing. Protect yourself to protect others.

As always, stay safe. GODBLESS
