What is Hepa B?
Hepatitis B, often abbreviated as Hep B, is a viral infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It primarily affects the liver, leading to inflammation and potentially causing chronic liver disease. The infection can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong condition. Chronic hepatitis B can lead to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer over time.
The virus spreads through contact with infectious body fluids, such as through unprotected s*x, sharing needles, or from mother to baby during childbirth. Hepatitis B is preventable through vaccination, and a vaccine is available that is highly effective at preventing the infection.
