School-Based Immunization Program Launch
Licab Central School | August 1, 2025
On August 1, 2025, the Licab Rural Health Unit (RHU), in partnership with DepEd personnel, officially launched the School-Based Immunization (SBI) program at Licab Central School. The pilot activity marked the start of a municipality-wide rollout aimed at protecting school children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
The activity began with an orientation for parents of Grade 1 and Grade 4 learners. Mrs. Loida Maximo of the Provincial Department of Health (DOH) – Nueva Ecija emphasized the importance of early protection through routine immunization. She discussed key vaccines, particularly the Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) for younger learners, and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for adolescent girls.
Vaccines Provided:
Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) for Grade 1 and Grade 7 learners
These vaccines protect against common and serious illnesses such as measles, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for Grade 4 female learners
The HPV vaccine helps prevent certain strains of the virus linked to cervical cancer and other long-term health risks.
Nurse Lei Angelic Bumanlag of the Licab RHU led an informative session to address parental concerns and dispel misconceptions about vaccination, reinforcing the safety and benefits of immunization.
Vaccination Coverage:
Grade 1: 70 out of 104 learners vaccinated (67.3%)
Grade 4: 32 out of 49 learners vaccinated (65.3%)
The event highlighted the importance of community involvement, with active participation from parents, health workers, and school staff. The joint efforts of the Licab RHU, DOH-HRH deployment team, and DepEd personnel ensured a smooth and effective immunization process.
This activity is part of the government's continued efforts to promote public health and safeguard children’s wellness through preventive care.
