SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

In a time when the government pushes for a jeepney modernization, two drivers share their contrasting experiences on the road. Mang Ronel “Tatay Ronel” Nebres, a traditional jeepney driver of 27 years, clings to legacy and livelihood that his jeep has brought to his family — his second home, his stage, and his identity.

Meanwhile, Jerus Carascal, once a traditional driver, now finds stability and security as part of a cooperative for modern jeepneys.

Through their stories, Piston at Progreso examines what “progress” really means — is it the comfort of air-conditioned rides and fixed salaries, or the freedom and pride of driving one’s own jeep? The documentary explores modernization not as a battle between old and new, but as a crossroad of survival, dignity, and adaptation.
