12 life skills for children that parents should educate from an early age
1. Wake yourself up every morning
Imagine what it would be like if the parents suddenly didn't wake up in the morning and then the child was late for school. Certainly when they come home, they may be angry and blame you, even though this is their responsibility. An independent life starts with the simple habit of getting out of bed every morning. Explain to your child that this is a necessary life skill, helping to practice responsibility and limit dependence on parents.
In addition, you can give your child an alarm clock or gently discuss methods to help your child wake up on their own without anyone's support. On the first morning when your child gets out of bed, prepares his own clothes and books for school, parents should frankly acknowledge and praise him so that he feels happy and continues to maintain this for a long time.
2. Learn to cook basic dishes
Cooking is one of the essential skills for children. In addition to forming an independent lifestyle, cooking helps children balance nutrition, eat scientifically and thereby improve health and reduce the risk of overweight and obesity. In the early stages, parents should teach their children how to go to the market, read food labels and preserve food. After that, you can teach your baby how to use a rice cooker, microwave or electric stove; how to process, chop, peel, and clean ingredients or how to recognize the color, shape, and size of food.
Once your child is familiar with basic tasks, give them freedom in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for the family such as frying eggs, combining cereal with milk, making sandwiches or vegetable salad. Although the implementation is extremely simple, this helps children feel happy and sometimes, parents can discover their child's "super chef" potential!
3. Practice doing housework
Cleaning the house helps children form a responsible lifestyle and practice orderliness and neatness from a young age. First of all, give children simple tasks such as washing dishes, drying and folding laundry, watering plants or cleaning the bedroom. When children are older, parents can assign more difficult tasks such as cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning the house during Tet. During the implementation process, it is certainly impossible to avoid "little accidents" such as stained clothes, undercooked food or dusty rooms. But, instead of scolding, parents should encourage their children to learn from the experience and have more motivation to "fix it" next time.
Train your child in the habit of being independent - voluntarily doing housework easily with specific instructions, your child will know how to sweep the floor, fold clothes quickly and easily... in just 5 minutes a day.
