No thinning—early pregnancy or before labor

Soft, thin, and shortened (50%–100% effaced)

Cervix length shrinks to paper‑thin

Signs of labor approaching or active labor

Effacement + dilation guides labor timing

Non‑effaced cervix means more time before active labor

Fully effaced (100%) means body is ready to push!
