IUI is a fertility treatment that places prepared s***m directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. It is often used as a first-line treatment for certain fertility issues or when using donor s***m.
How IUI works?
A fertility clinician measures your cycle and timing to optimize with ovulation.
S***m is collected, processed, and concentrated in a lab.
The prepared s***m are inserted through the cervix into the uterus with a thin catheter.
The procedure is usually quick and relatively painless, but some may feel cramping or discomfort.
Who may be a good candidate
Mild male fertility issues (low s***m count/mown motility)
Unexplained infertility
Ovulation is occurring but fertilization is unlikely due to s***m delivery
Mild endometriosis
Same-sex female couples using donor s***m
Single women using donor s***m
What to expect in a typical cycle
Consultation and testing: Medical history, pelvic exam, and possibly tests (hormone levels, ultrasound, infectious disease screening).
Ovulation tracking: Use of ovulation predictor kits, ultrasounds, or blood tests to determine the best timing.
IUI timing: S***m is prepared and insemination is performed around the day of ovulation or a day or two before, depending on the protocol.
Post-procedure: You may rest briefly; most people resume normal activities shortly after. A pregnancy test is typically done about two weeks later.
Number of cycles: Many people try 3–6 cycles before assessing effectiveness. Success rates vary.
