Vanessa Anne Joice T. Haro is a licensed psychologist and psychometrician who works holistically and with deep respect for each person’s lived experience. Her work is rooted in a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens, supporting people to reconnect with their strengths, honour their unique identities, and feel more at home in themselves. Vanessa works with clients across the lifespan, with a particular focus on adolescents and adults navigating trauma, addiction, complex PTSD, grief, anxiety, depression, and relationship or family challenges. She believes that healing is not one-size-fits-all.

Her approach is integrative and grounded, drawing from body-based and behaviour therapies that support both emotional and nervous system regulation. Vanessa holds a strong belief that trauma lives not only in the mind, but also in the body, and that unhealed trauma can be passed through families across generations. Her work is guided by a commitment to reducing the impact of trauma in both children and adults, with the hope of supporting collective healing and helping break cycles that no longer need to be carried forward.

Vanessa has a special interest in supporting people who:
- are living with grief in its many forms, including grief that arrives before a loss, lingers longer than expected, isn’t always recognised by others (such as the loss of a pet), is shared within a community, follows sudden or traumatic events, or surfaces much later in life
- are creatives — writers, artists, and makers — who feel disconnected from their creativity or stuck in a season of creative block
- are navigating women’s concerns, including postpartum depression, identity shifts, and experiences shaped by racial and cultural intersectionality
- have experienced trauma or complex trauma, especially when it continues to shape emotions, relationships, or a sense of safety
- have long felt like an outsider, carrying a quiet sense of not quite belonging
- experience dissociation, such as feeling distant from their body, emotions, or the present moment
- notice ongoing attachment or relationship patterns that make closeness, trust, or emotional safety feel difficult

Since 2022, Vanessa has offered pro bono mental health support to mothers experiencing postpartum depression and individuals from underserved and marginalised communities. She is also the co-founder of Brainspotting Philippines Training Consultancy Services, which aims to expand access to trauma-informed, neuroscience-based training in the Philippines.

Beyond her clinical work, she is a published poet, with writing featured in local and international publications, and has received national and international poetry fellowships.

Have you ever experienced a craving for the attention and approval of someone you didn’t even know or like? It’s a weird feeling, isn’t it? You find yourself seeking validation from someone who doesn’t even have your best interests at heart, and yet, you can’t help but feel the need for their approval. This craving is more common than we realize, and it often stems from deeper, unprocessed emotional wounds tied to past trauma.

When we experience trauma, it doesn’t just affect our minds; it leaves a lasting imprint on our bodies and nervous systems. But what often gets overlooked is what happens after the trauma—the way we land after it. The moments that follow can become their own form of trauma, as significant as the event itself. Did we get the support we needed? Were we heard, seen, and cared for, or were we left to cope alone? The absence of these vital resources can leave our nervous system stuck in a state of alert, making it harder for us to heal.

This is where the craving for validation comes in. If we were left feeling neglected or unheard after a traumatic experience, we may seek approval from anyone, even from people who don't truly support us. We may unconsciously look for reassurance and acceptance in places that won’t ever provide it, because our body and mind are still trying to fill the emotional gap left by trauma.

Brainspotting can be incredibly helpful in addressing this. Instead of just focusing on the surface-level need for approval, Brainspotting helps us explore the deeper emotional triggers. It guides us to the spots in our body where those emotions are stored—the tension, discomfort, or unease that we carry, often without even realizing it. Through this process, we begin to connect with the trauma behind the craving for approval, understanding how and why we seek validation in the wrong places.

As we work through these emotions with Brainspotting, the nervous system is gently retrained to process and release the stuck energy. We learn to reconnect with our true sense of worth, separate from external validation. Over time, Brainspotting helps us break free from these old patterns and find peace, not by chasing someone else's approval, but by rediscovering our own sense of self-worth.

Healing from trauma is never a quick fix, but with Brainspotting, you can start to shift the way your body and mind respond to past hurts. You can stop seeking validation from people who don’t truly see you and begin to trust in your own worth. You deserve to feel whole, heard, and safe, and with Brainspotting, that’s exactly what’s possible.
