As part of the Vision to improve the health status of the communities of Lucena City, a dynamic couple Dr. Potenciano A. Andaman and Dr. Elvira Andres-Andaman rented an old house located at Granja St. Lucena City and established a sole proprietor clinic named “Andaman Maternity and Surgical Clinic “on January 31, 1978. It started out as a 10-bed capacity primary hospital with only 5 employees.
Yet, the Founders dreamed to extend their service to a larger community regardless of their socioeconomic status. They transferred the Hospital to a new location, P. Gomez Extension, Red-V at Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City. They constructed a 45-bed capacity building that was inaugurated as “Andaman General Hospital” on January 31, 1981.
The hospital’s third floor served as St. Anne School of Midwifery in 1987; afterwards it was renovated in 1993 to give way to the establishment of Nurse Station 3.
On November 23, 1993, the hospital gained new shareholders and thus became a corporation, adopting a new name: “St. Anne General Hospital Inc.” (SAGHI), which has been its namesake to this day.
The Hemodialysis Center, Eye Center and Physical Therapy Department started its operations, the first of its kind in Lucena City, during the Celebration of SAGHI’s 18th Anniversary in January 31, 1996.
Dr. Andaman also desired to provide other means of healthcare outside of Lucena City. Thus in 1997, the hospital acquired a Portable X-Ray Machine and a Mobile to introduce such services to the public.
In 1999, the founders established the Medical Arts Building, which served as the Outpatient Services Department, New Rehabilitative Medicine Center and Pharmacy.
The increased demand for healthcare paved way for the Hospital’s approval, from the Department of Health, to increase its bed capacity to sixty (60) beds in 2004; and to eighty (80) Beds in 2016 along with the opening of Nurse Station 4.
Likely so, that the Outpatient Services was transferred to the new Hemodialysis building temporarily in 2016 until the completion of the 7-Floor Hospital Annex by the end of year 2018
This influx for health had also given way for new job opportunities for our fellow Filipinos, from five (5) employees in 1978 to one hundred sixty three (163) in less than 40 years.
As such, Travel benefits were given to employees, whom the founders have recognized, for their loyalty and the years they have served during the Annual Celebration of the Founding Anniversary.
The Hospital has continuously provided its stakeholders with advancements in technology and innovations in Healthcare such moments were pinnacles of history in Quezon Province. An example was in year 2010, where the First Laparoscopic Surgery was performed by the only Fellow of the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons in Quezon – Jonathan M. Garcia, MD.. Also in 2016, where the
First Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy in Quezon was performed by Albert Aquino, MD; and the first Bubble Echocardiogram Study was performed by Paolo Joel T. Nocom, MD in late 2017.
By January 2017, marking its 39th Founding Anniversary, SAGHI had become the First in Quezon to have all its Services, ISO 9001 Certified, by ISC Global of Dubai.
These new methods of delivering healthcare and Successes in Quality Assurance are proof of SAGHI’s pursuit to improving the health and welfare of the Filipino people living true to its Motto: “Committed to Serve for Better Health”
