Chicken eggs are an affordable source of protein and other essential nutrients. They are easy to prepare and can be added to various recipes.

Based on the DOST-FNRIโ€™s 2019 Philippine Food Composition Table (FCT) and Food Exchange List (FEL) for Meal Planning, one boiled egg contains ๐Ÿด ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป and ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฏ ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น.

However, you may have heard that cholesterol contributes to heart disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide.

A study led by Tanchoco in 2011 about the effect of egg consumption on Filipino adults' lipid profile showed that for most people, the cholesterol in eggs does not cause a spike in blood cholesterol levels. That said, some individuals, known as "hyper-responders", may experience a rise in blood cholesterol when consuming eggs, while some may be allergic. But for most people, eggs can be enjoyed in moderation without concern.

So, if you are in good health, there is no need to fear eggs. When consumed as part of a moderate, varied, and balanced diet, eggs can be a practical, relatively affordable, and nutritious choice.

Public Reminder: Use of the Title โ€œNutritionistโ€ in the Philippines

The title โ€œNutritionistโ€ should only be used by individuals who are licensed and recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) of the Philippines. Only licensed Nutritionist-Dietitians have the legal authority to provide professional nutrition guidance and services under Philippine law.

Improper use of this professional title misleads the public and undermines the standards of healthcare and nutrition in the country. Let us remain vigilant and report individuals who pose as nutritionists without the proper qualifications and licensure.

Protect the integrity of the profession. Support only licensed Nutritionist-Dietitians.

STATEMENT OF THE PROFESSIONAL REGULATORY BOARD OF NUTRITION AND DIETETICS ON THE ONLINE OFFERING OF SHORT-TERM NUTRITION COURSE

It was brought to the attention of the Professional Regulatory board of Nutrition and Dietetics (BoND) that there are several Nutrition course offerings which are being advertised in social media channels such as Facebook. These short-term online courses are being offered and made available to anyone through online platforms under flexible learning schedules and arrangements. Those who have completed the online courses are eligible to become accredited or certified โ€œNutritionistsโ€.

In the Philippines, Nutrition and Dietetics is recognized as a regulated profession by virtue of Republic Act (RA) No. 10862, otherwise known as the โ€œNutrition and Dietetics Law of 2016โ€. In order to lawfully practice the profession in the country, one must be registered and licensed as a Nutritionist-Dietitian by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the BoND. Meanwhile, the academic requirement for licensure is the completion of the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics which is a four-year degree program regulated by the Commission in Higher Education (CHED).

The BoND wishes to inform the public that the conferment of the professional title โ€œNutritionistโ€ is subject to full compliance with the licensing requirements of RA No. 10862. These include completing the BS in Nutrition and Dietetics and passing the Licensure Examination for Nutritionist and Dietitians given by the PRC and the BoND. Mere completion of a short-term nutrition course is not enough to lawfully confer the โ€œNutritionistโ€ title or status, let alone, without the corresponding license as โ€œNutritionist-Dietitianโ€. To reiterate, the use of the title โ€œNutritionist-Dietitianโ€ without the requisite license from the PRC and the BoND is punishable under the law.

The Board hereby urge the public to be more circumspect in availing these kinds of course offerings. While the BoND supports the need to raise public awareness on nutrition thru online course offerings, the conduct of such activities must, at all times, be consistent with the applicable legal prescriptions and regulations, particularly on the conferment and use of professional titles.

Iron is an important nutrient the body needs to produce red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body.

Micronutrients include vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are further classified into fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E, and K while water-soluble are B and C. Table 1.2 presents sources and functions of vitamins.
