After some minor delays, it’s finally happening—I’m heading to Kyoto at the end of the month for an internship, taking a bold step toward my passion for tea at nearly 40!

The past few months have been a whirlwind of emotions—joy, excitement, and deep reflection. For two wonderful decades, I’ve been in the corporate Learning & Development field, a career built on stability and calculated risks. Only a few in my close circle know how risk-averse I truly am—I’ve always chosen the path of assured opportunities. But this? This defies all of that.

I’m about to venture into uncharted territory, and I won’t lie—it’s daunting. But passion is my fuel, and it’s leading me forward. I don’t know what awaits beyond this, but one thing is certain: more teas—verbal and herbal! LOL! 😊

I also want to take this moment to thank my ever-supportive fiancé, who has stood by my side through the hardest times, as well as my loving parents and siblings , Sha, for their unwavering support. To my dear friend, colleague, and confidante, —thank you for always lending an ear and for your constant support! And to the whole communiTEA, thank you for being part of this journey!

端午安康! Healthy Dragon Boat Festival everyone!

Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, in 2024 it falls on June 10.

🐲 Brief history of Dragon Boat Festivity

It marks the death of Qu Yuan (屈原), a patriotic poet of the state of Chu during the Warring States Period (475–221 BC). According to Chinese literature, on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, the king banished Qu Yuan. Unable to bear it, Qu Yuan killed himself by jumping into the Mi Luo River. The locals sailed to the river and attempted to save him by throwing rice dumplings into the river so river creatures won’t feed on him. This rice dumpling is called zongzi (粽子).

Dragon boat festival is celebrated in many countries by hosting Dragon Boat Races and serving zongzi.

🍵 What’s my tea?

Tai Ping Hou Kui (太平猴魁) a green tea from Anhui (安徽) province in China. This tea has been grown since the Ming Dynasty at the foot of Huangshan (黄山), former Taiping Prefecture, Anhui. It was only harvested for emperors during the Qing Dynasty. In the beginning of the 20th century, the teas started to be produced commercially.

Unlike most green teas with vegetal attributes, good quality Tai Ping Hou Kui would have prominent sweet, fruity taste and aroma. A perfect tea to balance slightly savory dishes like zongzi. A MUST TRY! 😊
