-Lidocaine 5% Ointment USP is a topical local anesthetic preparation used to relieve pain and discomfort by numbing the skin or mucous membranes.

Description

● Composition: Contains 5% lidocaine (50 mg per gram) in an ointment base.
● Classification: Amide-type local anesthetic.
● Standard: “USP” means it meets quality, purity, and strength standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia.

Mechanism of Action

-Lidocaine works by blocking sodium ion channels in nerve cells. This prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, producing a temporary loss of sensation (numbing effect) in the applied area.

Indications / Uses

● Relief of pain and itching from minor skin conditions
● Local anesthesia of mucous membranes (including oral tissues in some cases)
