In 2017, Teacher Ray Orozco finished B.S. Occupational Therapy from the University of Santo Tomas. UST shaped, not just his clinical skills, but also his passion for helping children reach their full potential through meaningful, play-based interventions.

He has since pursued specialized training to deepen his expertise. He is certified in TalkTools Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) which addresses feeding and speech challenges and Developmental Play Level 1, focusing on how play fosters emotional, social, and cognitive development. He is also trained in Learning Without Tears, known for its practical, multisensory strategies supporting handwriting and literacy.

T. Ray enjoys being part of a child’s journey—to see small victories become big milestones, believing that therapy should be both evidence-based and joy-filled. Each certification has added a new layer to how he supports children and families make therapy empowering, playful, and purpose-driven.

WE ARE PROUD TO PRESENT…TEACHER JOMA

Teacher Joma or Teacher Joseph Manansala’s full time job is teaching at his alma mater, the University of the Philippines - College of Allied Medical Professions. At TalkActive Therapy Center -Taguig where he works part-time, all the scientific theories and approaches he brings forth in the SLP classroom come to life and gain even more meaning with the children in his caseload.

Last weekend, Teacher Joma shared his research at the PASP convention entitled: Towards Establishing a Contemporary Phonological Inventory for the Philippine Language. His research aims to develop an updated speech sound inventory for the major Philippine languages, with the goal of supporting future speech-language pathologists in implementing more accurate and culturally appropriate approaches tailored to the needs of Filipino patients.

We are very proud of Teacher Joma’s academic achievements and thankful he gets to practice at TalkActive Taguig😊.

What’s a convention without the little reunions on the side?

I went back to school in 2011. I was 46yo and my classmates were mostly 16 year old boys and girls. I don’t know what happened but how is it that they are all of a sudden adult men and women and I still feel 46?

I have to say that my classmates (UP SLP Batch 2015) and the teachers who taught us contained the kindest of souls. They helped this middle aged woman (clearly a 20th century learner) survive, even enjoy a 21st century education!

This weekend’s convention, organized by the Philippine Association of Speech-Language Pathologists, proved that there is always so much to learn and still so much to discover in this livelihood we have chosen.

We are speech language therapists who help individuals find their words and their voices so they can better navigate the world.

We are life long learners, begging to find answers and seeking to find the light, so the individuals under our care can communicate and participate in the ultimate activity we call life!

We are Filipino speech language therapists longing to stay, if not forever, then a little bit longer, to serve a population that we believe can contribute to this country we love and call home.

TEACHER MAAN ON THE RISE

Teacher Maan Magtira graduated from the University of the Philippines-Manila (B.S. Occupational Therapy, 2017) and is currently a student in the Diliman campus for Masters in Clinical Psychology.

She got interested in OT while watching one of her sister’s (a speech therapist) sessions. She said, who wouldn’t want playing AS THEIR JOB???

While studying, T. Maan realized that scientific theories are fully behind play intervention. She loves helping children and teens with daily tasks, as well as with their thoughts and emotions, leading her to take certifications in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) as well as Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Currently, T. Maan is on her way to becoming a psychologist.

She is passionate about combining OT and psychology—supporting children and adolescents with everyday occupations while making sure emotional needs are seen, supported, and advocated for.

An added fun fact: T. Maan does aerial arts and has a strong core!
