Proud to be a part of this Milestone!

Our first living donor Liver transplant was just recently done at the Makati Medical Center.

A 23-year old diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a progressive autoimmune liver disease, was suffering from chronic infections. Under the care of the its former chair of the Section of Gastroenterology, Dr Ernesto Olympia with Dr Jay Dy, he was the beneficiary of Makati Med’s newly established liver transplant program spearheaded by the Liver Unit’s former head, Dr Eternity Labio and the chief of the section of Hepatobiliary surgery Dr Catherine Teh.

With the full support of the hospital under the leadership of Dr Saturnino Javier, MakatiMed’s Interim Co-President & CEO and Medical Director, the 13-hour surgery was successful performed by MakatiMed’s Hepatobiliary and Vascular surgeons and a team of Anesthesiologists. This was made possible with the support and technical assistance of ASAN medical team from South Korea, the hospital with the most number of liver transplants globally. This amazing team up ushers a new era in liver care in the country.
