ABAKADANG KAYUMANGGI COMMUNITY
          DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
HISTORY and PROFILE
Seeing the plight of most children in the urban poor community of East Riverside Malabon, most of whom are not able to go to school due to poverty, Mommy Flordeliza Galang established the East Riverside Daycare Center (E.R.D.C.) with the help of the fundraising efforts of her only son, Christian folksinger, composer, poet, cultural activist, social and community development worker Paul Galang. With a meager amount of two thousand pesos raised through Paul’s concert, ERDC purchased wood and nails that were made into its first blackboard, tables and chairs by willing and able fathers from the community. The children of these fathers then became the first 21 students of the daycare center. Hence, the humble history of ERDC started in 1988, with Mommy as its first teacher. Up to her death in 1993, Mommy spent every day of her life serving the children. In 1998, ERDC changed its name to AKCDF ( Abakadang Kayumanggi Community Development Foundation), as it has grown to serve over seven other urban poor communities within the cities of Caloocan and Malabon. It has also developed programs on adult literacy and livelihood development trainings in cooperation with civic organizations, that serve to empower youth and women to become productive citizens of their community, country and the global community. Presently, AKCDF through its Abakadang Kayumanggi Learning Center Program provides quality preschool and ECCD services to children of workers, poor families and others in need. It also conducts school and community-based feeding for underserved children for the prevention of hunger and malnutrition with the help of AKCDF Every Child is My Child mission partners. Medical and dental missions are also organized in cooperation with volunteer doctors, dentists and local government and barangay health centers to promote wellness in the community. AKCDF is a SEC Registered, DSWD Licensed and DepEd recognized non-government organization that provides education, nutrition and livelihood development trainings to underserved children, youth, and women. Its programs is coupled with social advocacies promoting children’s rights and humane welfare for peace. Today, AKCDF stands as a Solidarity Social and Community Development Peace Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights and People’s Welfare
